Out of Iowa Posted September 29, 2016 #1 Share Posted September 29, 2016 I was viewing the CCL website, thinking/dreaming of future dates that might work....chose a date in Spring 2017 out of Galveston. I'm thinking it would be oddly fun to try a room guarantee cabin instead of choosing our own....I know, live dangerously? It sounds like there is a 75% chance we'd get something to our liking and at a lower cost. Anyway, I could not find any option to have Carnival assign the room...all the options I saw were for me to choose our cabin. Did I miss something? Do they only offer GTYs some times and not others? Namelocg Posted September 29, 2016 #2 Share Posted September 29, 2016 You are a little far from spring 2017. They usually put up the guarantee rates closer to the sail date to fill the ship. Keep checking. They will show up eventually.
virginiab Posted September 29, 2016 #3 Share Posted September 29, 2016 When it's available, it will be the first rate you see, then they will ask you if you prefer to choose your own cabin.
Rare Banditswife Posted September 29, 2016 #4 Share Posted September 29, 2016 I asked for a balcony GTY for our Hawaii cruise which is 14 months away & there was none available.
RuthlessBoss Posted September 30, 2016 #5 Share Posted September 30, 2016 I asked for a balcony GTY for our Hawaii cruise which is 14 months away & there was none available. How would Carnival know over a year in advance which cabins would not be booked? That's what a guarantee is, left over non booked cabins. Micahs Grandad Posted September 30, 2016 #6 Share Posted September 30, 2016 When it's available, it will be the first rate you see, then they will ask you if you prefer to choose your own cabin. It is not always offered.
maldenmusic Posted September 30, 2016 #7 Share Posted September 30, 2016 We did this on the Triumph a few years ago but booked about 3 weeks prior to the cruise.
ray98 Posted September 30, 2016 #8 Share Posted September 30, 2016 As above....you are really to far out. Right now the early bookers will be more inclined to pick their own locations and there is no incentive to offer a discounted fare. Once you get within 6 months of sailing a GTY fare will pretty much always pop up. They are giving you a discount to allow them to place you as needed to fill up their categories. andismom Posted October 2, 2016 #9 Share Posted October 2, 2016 We booked inside GTY and ended up in the middle of the ship on Deck 7. We also got an upsale call offer to a balcony room for $350 more. We didn't take it - using our money for Cheers instead!
