YOUR experience w/14 day cruise (embark/disembark)

My wife and I will be on a 14 day cruise out of San Juan. The ship will embark on a 7 day cruise, and then return to disembark those that only chose the first leg. We embark later than evening for the next 7 days.

We will still have the same cabin on the second leg.

 

Do you know if we will have to go thru the embarkation process again for the second leg? I called NCL and the rep said we don't have to go thru the process, but I wanted input from those who have experience with this, not your opinion. If you need more info, please ask.

I can't help specifically, but just a word of warning.

 

This differs from port to port, so be aware that any reports others give from different places may not apply to you.

 

For example, I've done it in Europe and we could stay onboard. However, in Miami (and I believe all US ports), the ship has to be cleared I think and everyone has to leave for a while.

 

Your port will have specific rules i imagine.

You will get a notification from the service desk a couple of days before the first part of the cruise ends telling you want to do. you will be able to keep your clothes in the room, you will not be required to attend the muster drill, as the previous poster stated, if the cruise originated in a foreign country and ends in a foreign country, you will not be required to leave the ship, If your cruise starts and ends in the U.S, then you will be required to leave the ship and then after all cleared is given, you can then reboard.

As said it varies by port; the best way is to take an NCL shorex on the debark/embark day!!!

 

Check with Guest services the night before that you don't need a new key, there are a number of reasons that you might notably a new 'perk' for the second part. We have stayed in the same room for B@B and needed a new key as we had bought SDP for the second part.

 

Your will almost certainly be given "In Transit" stickers. If you have to or want to leave the ship wear these to bypass check-in only, there will be people who will direct you where to go, you will still have to have bags you have taken off for the day checked as at every other port.

 

Certainly at US ports where this debark/embark occurs and at Canadian ports where the next port is an American port the ship is likely to have to be cleared totally of passengers. In that case if you don't go on a shorex or go exploring on your own you will be sitting in a "holding" area for a couple of hours before you can reboard; and may even have to be immigration cleared as well.

Correct that there is variety with this experience. Our b2b was in Miami. We did not get In Transit" stickers. What did happen was we were told to hang out at a particular lounge and deboarded last. We went right back thru the check-in and to the waiting room. We told the staff there that we were b2b and they let us reboard immediately, long before anyone else. Both odd and cool to have the whole ship to ourselves for almost an hour. Like was mentioned, you will be instructed once on the ship and you go with the flow.

On the Sun in 2015 pulled into Vancouver after Panama Canal cruise, got the in transit treatment, about an hour from getting off to getting back on, we're in same cabin, did not have to do second muster drill. Got new room card since the first 19 days made us Platinum. That was handled through the cruise consultant the last night of the first leg, there were about 200 of us doing b2b.. We are doing the same 14 days out of San Juan booked as two 7 days to allow us to use a total of 4 cruise next deposits, will be in same cabin, hope to avoid the second muster again. Wonder when the muster will be since the ship pulls out at 9PM.
