Booking on-board, quoted price nearly twice as much...

I just recently got off the 27 Sep 2016 NY to Quebec voyage. While on board, about three days ago, I visited the future voyage office to inquire about the 2017 July 1 voyage (NYC to NYC).

I asked about future cruise credit and the cost of that voyage. First he indicated that there 'would be no perks' if I got the future cruise credit and used it for that voyage. I thought that usually they offer OBC when doing that, but since I'm not really sure, I didn't press it. But one thing that he did state is that 'this voyage is filling up quickly'. He then informed me that I could book it (and later cancel if the price went down).

The price? Well, the inside cabin was quoted at $2100 PP (USD), and the least expensive balcony was quoted at just over $2800 PP (USD).

Needless to say, I didn't book it... I know that prices vary, but I've never seen this particular voyage over about $1300 inside cabin.

So, this morning I checked Cunard.com, and the inside is $1149 and balcony is $1549.

Not sure what to think. I can't imagine the price bouncing around that much in two days. And it has shaken my confidence in booking on board ever again.

Sounds like those were Single Occ. prices that you were given.

That Sailing also has the Free Grat's ,Free Upgrades and Reduced Deposits right now.

The only thing the Onboard person told you that was correct , was that it is filling up fast with the current promo.

Book it then transfer it right away to a Good Cruise Specialist TA for "their price" .

Or, perhaps, there was a mix-up with the "July 1 2017" voyage. There are two and one is a 5-night and the other is a 12-night. ($1149 and $2449 inside prices respectively as of today)

Maybe the future cruise person missed the NYC-NYC part and quoted the NYC-Southampton prices.

As MCC said, if you book now you also get Grats, Upgrades, and reduced deposit. Have fun.

Cheers!

I always check Cunard.com pricing before going down to the sales office (Pro Tip: you can surf to Cunard.com pages on the ship's WiFi without logging in and incurring time against your internet package) and the online pricing and special offers like OBC and gratuities have always been matched at a minimum.

Thanks for this.:)

I will heed your advice as we prepare to book our second Cunard cruise while on board our first ... in just two weeks.:D

Cheers!

Thank you for the suggestions and possible explanation. I was just so flabbergasted when he quoted me the price that I didn't even have my wits about me to inquire about a clarification. I've taken that particular voyage I think three times now, and have never seen those prices before. I should have asked more questions. Oh well, next time I hope to be more inquisitive.

That is worth knowing, thank you Underwatr...

I wonder if it works for .co.uk as well as .com?

Ummmm... must check in just over 50 days...
