Anthem of the Seas , Guarentee Balcony Question

Recommended Posts

Hi,

We booked a Guarentee balcony on a 5N cruise to Bermuda on Anthem of the Seas last week. We already got our cabin assignment. It's 6118 . It looks like it's the first room all the was forward on the port side. It says it's a D8 and looks like in pictures of the ship it does not have a life boat in front of the balcony, but looks like the one next to it does. Has anyone had this cabin or can anyone confirm that there is not an obstruction . I'm guessing if there was it would be catagory DO. We never did a Guarentee balcony before but it was so much cheaper we couldn't pass this up. Also is there any chance they would change the cabin again?

Thanks,

Fran

D8 cabins are not obstructed. What exact date are you sailing? It might be possible to switch to another available D8 cabin between now and your sail date.

May 5th , but we are Guarentee we can't switch by ourselves , just hope they won't switch us to an Obstructed view cabin.

They will let you switch withing the same category. Cabin 8228, also a D8 is open and right near the aft elevators.

I'm seeing a bunch of D8 cabins on decks 6, 7, and 8.

In order of preference - 8228, 8270, 8556, 7556, 7548, 7568

Criteria - close to an elevator, aft, higher deck, non connecting,

Switch now. Don't wait if they are pushing guarantees.

Thank you . We don't mind staying there being right above the Royal Esplanade. Just wanted to make sue there was no obstruction.

No obstruction but the balcony is hull like, not totally open. If you go to cruise line rooms dot com (all one word) and you go to Royal Caribbean and then go to Anthem then deck 7 and then cabin 7110 you will see a pic of what your cabin balcony would look like.

With NA bookings once your guaranty is assigned a cabin RCI will allow you to switch to another cabin in the same category, D8 in your case.

Looking at RCI's UK site I see for the May. 6/16 (not May 5th) Bermuda cruise there are these Cat. D* cabins 6528, 6548, 6552, 6554 and 6556 showing available if you want to stay on deck 6.. The last four are quite handy to the front elevators/ stairs area and aren't obstructed at all. The obstructed Cat. DO start at cabin 6560 and the first lifeboat actually is in front of 6562 and beyond.

Simply call RCI if booked direct or your travel agent if through an agency.

Also I've never experienced in over a dozen gty bookings nor heard of a downgrade after a cabin have been assigned to a guaranty, only upgrades. :D

We did this two weeks ago when our X balcony gty for this month Brilliance TA cruise was assigned a Cat. D1 and we were able to change to another D1 cabin near our friends' cabin. ;)

Below is that section of balconies on the starboard front of Anthem and as you can see the lifeboats are quite a way back from the bow section.

Cabin 7110 is one of the most forward on the ship deck 7 and 8 Cat. DO obstructed view balconies with the large porthole type openings and their balconies are not similar to the other Cat. D8 on deck 6, 7 and 8 aft of these five balconies as shown in the shot below.

Thanks for the pic. I apologize for any misunderstanding :o but I thought those first balcony rooms were the same on decks 6, 7 & 8 but apparently it's only on 7 & 8 so the balcony the original poster has on deck 6 should be a normal balcony with no obstruction.

Thanks for the help everyone, I didn't know we can change cabins like that on s guarantee . We switched to deck 8. 8576. Quite frankly I'm very surprised they assigned us a cabin that quickly in the first place. And yes I meant May 6, not May 5

No offense, but I would not recommend 8576 because it is a connecting cabin. In my experience on Anthem, you want to be close to the aft elevators if possible. However if you prefer being forward, don't get a connecting cabin.

I'm curious why aft? We were near the forward elevators on our March cruise on Deck 13 and thought it was a good location. Next cruise we will be on Deck 12 near forward elevators.

When my travel agent (mother in law ) called she put me on the phone they had cabins closer to the aft but the one more forward that we picked was a little closer to an elevator . Honestly we don't care about aft or forward the only time we care about aft is when we are on the true aft on the back of the ship which we love. We saved a ton on money doing guarantee we just didn't want obstruction from the lifeboats or to be on the first cabin all the way forward . So we are happy now. We usually care more on longer cruises . We are just doing a shorter one to use some credit card points .

Being close to the elevators is key. Beyond that it's a personal choice. The aft elevators give you direct access to the 4 dining rooms, the windjammer, the casino and the Seaplex and better access to the cafe 270 and the cafe promenade. The forward elevators will give you better access to the theater, the music hall, the solarium, and the spa. It's a big ship, so no matter where your cabin is, you will have a hike to certain venues.

I just wouldn't book a connecting cabin if I had a choice. For the OP cabin 8556 is not connecting and is right by the forward elevators.

Glad you were able to change. FWIW 8228 is very close to the aft elevators and not a connecting room. We preferred the aft elevators because they were more centrally located if you wanted to get to almost everything except the Theater & Solarium.

Enjoy your cruise :)

Having a connecting cabin on a Quantum class ship isn't as bad as on other classes of RCI ships. The connecting door is just inside the cabin between the two hallways beside the bathrooms as the shot below shows. The connecting door is the open one and both entrance doors are closed and visible.

I've been assigned balcony room #10718 on my Anthem cruise(guaranteed balcony). It says Oceanview Stateroom with Balcony(smaller balcony). How much smaller is my balcony? I haven't found pictures of this room.

Looks like it's a D7 i believe the balcony is 55 sqft instead of 65 (no biggie) I think the cabins are 198 sq ft. Just be happy like I was that it's not an obstructed view.

The balcony for cabin 10718 is indicated by the arrow in the shot below. It's actually slightly larger than a regular D7 balcony when you compared to the other D7s forward of it on the same deck although its balcony door, as one can see, isn't as large as a regular balcony door. It may be a hinged and not a sliding one since there aren't any side lite windows.

If you get a guaranteed balcony room and they assign you a DO can you just cancel and rebook?

You can cancel for a full refund anytime before final payment date. However, when you rebook, you will be paying current prices.

Can I ask why you wouldn't want the first cabin all the way forward? I have been assigned one on another ship and to me it looks ok, but am I missing something?
