Samsung Note 7

Been discussed - here: http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=2417414&highlight=Samsung

Other cruise lines had done this much earlier - airlines around the world has banned them ... not just from usage while in "transit" by travelers by allowing them to be in the possession of the travelers. They are a serious fire hazard with documented case of even the replacement devices going up in smoke & fire. Samsung has been recalling them worldwide and it is also an environmental disaster ... not as simple as dumping them into a landfill somewhere, NIMB of course. It's not clear on what's happening to some of them in the global grey/black market or obtained via unofficial channel.

It would've been "easier" to reduce the risk by simply popping open the back cover of these phabets, remove the battery & leave it off until Samsung can come up with a "safer" battery that can be recharged for use ... the penalty for an ultra slim device with non-removable battery. Not to go off-topic, there've been other devices with safety recalls, including iPhones (typically with non-OEM & unapproved chargers) that "explode" with risks for injuries & fire, toxic smoke, etc.

They also include it in the muster drill now, but people who still have the phone in their possession at that point are probably well aware of the risks and still want to continue using the phone, so all they have to do is keep it in a drawer or in their cabin safe or in their pocket and what can anybody do.

wait until it catches fire then kick them off the ship!

Really why anyone would still have the phone is beyond my comprehension. Samsung still does not know exactly why there is an issue so there is really no way to know how to use the phone safely.
