thechandlers99 Posted November 7, 2016 #1 Share Posted November 7, 2016 We got home yesterday from our cruise on the Magic. This was our 6th Carnival cruise. We traveled with 4 other people to celebrate DH's 40th birthday. Cabin: We had a suite (room 7334). It was nice to have the extra space, but annoying that there were really no perks. One day we got a notice saying we had priority debarkation in Grand Turk and to head to guest services to get off the ship at 11:45 am. We waited, and waited, and waited. No one ever came, despite and ton of people waiting with us. Finally someone came around and said the gangway was open. We got off with everyone else. Why make a point of advertising this and then not following through? Cruise Director: Rev Dr. E was our CD and he was absolutely amazing. I've never laughed so hard at announcements as I did with his. He is a breath of fresh air and I will certainly be looking for him on our next cruise. Food: The food was good to great all over the ship, with the exception of the deli. My fav deli sandwich is a Reuben. On every ship I order one and I am always disappointed. The meat is always super fatty and they don't toast the bread enough. We did the Prime Steakhouse one evening and like always, it was excellent. The best $35 pp you can spend. Internet: Everyone in our group did the $30 social plan. It was great being able to use Facebook Messenger to keep up with everyone. I would def recommend this. I just wish the Weather Channel app was supported so you could check the weather in the port. Ports: Our ship stopped in Amber Cover, St. Thomas, San Juan, and Grand Turk. Amber Cove - we just got off, walked around the shops right there and went back to the ship to lay by the pool. We thought about going to the pool right at the port, but we decided we'd rather eat for free. St. Thomas - we booked a private catamaran charter with Capt Joe on the Scubadu. It was $175 pp and included alcohol, an amazing lunch, and the sailing. It was an AMAZING day. We went to a snorkel spot and we were the only ones there. It is pricy but def worth every penny. I would highly recommend this. San Juan - we stayed on the ship. I think this is a popular thing to do in this port. The ship was packed. Grand Turk - we spent the day drinking at Margaritaville. It's a great, low key, easy hangout type of day. Entertainment: We really didn't get to see much. Our dinner ran late pretty much every night. The female comedian, Jodi, was absolutely hilarious. Overall we had a great trip. I did not really love the layout of the ship. I'm used to the Glory, Freedom, etc ships. I much prefer the openness of the buffet, the 2 deck lido, the interior promenade, etc of those ships. I did love the fact that the muster stations are indoors on this ship. No standing on deck, sweating like crazy. We sat inside the dining room and we were nice and cool. That was a good surprise. If you have any questions, I am happy to answer them! Woodfaerie Posted November 7, 2016 #2 Share Posted November 7, 2016 Your ship shadowed mine, the Glory, with the exception of Amber Cove. I have to say, you all looked like you were having a great time!! Lots of energy at Margaritaville, of which your ship won more points and when we pulled out of Grand Turk before you, I think 50% of those on the Magic were bidding us adue with great gusto from their balconies and lido deck! I would have loved to sit in in one of the hot tubs hanging off the sides of the ship though I wonder how occupied they must have been at all times. I hope to one day take a trip on the Magic, sounds like you had a fun trip!

meatloafsfan Posted November 7, 2016 #5 Share Posted November 7, 2016 Thanks for the review. At the deli, I too love the Rueben. On our last cruise I ordered a turkey Rueben with extra sauce and extra sauerkraut (because I find that they don't put enough of those one) and it was just about perfect. While the workers can't do anything about the meat, if you want your sandwich more toasted, just ask. They try their best to please.
crusinpsychRN Posted November 7, 2016 #6 Share Posted November 7, 2016 I was on the 10/22 cruise. Got a bad rib eye in the steakhouse--way too chewy. At the deli the girl put lots of meat on my Rueben. It was great. I found Dr. E's announcements annoying. Funny, one vs the other's experiences. psouthcomb Posted November 7, 2016 #8 Share Posted November 7, 2016 Going on the Magic next year and have suite #7328 right down the hall from you. Sorry to hear about Grand Turk debarkation. Did anyone apologize? I heard that the spas down below our rooms were quit loud at times. Any problems with that? Did the stewards upkeep you suite twice a day? But we were OK with that as it is vacation time. The hot tubs are thoroughly cleaned. I am an early riser and watched the cleaning process. The food on the Magic was great. We dined at the Italian restaurant and it was top notch.

Did the stewards upkeep you suite twice a day? No one said anything about Grand Turk. It was so strange. We never heard the spas outside our room. There was hardly ever more than 2-3 people in them at a time. Yes, the did make up the room twice, but I did notice they never changed the sheets. Just made the bed. I hope to one day take a trip on the Magic, sounds like you had a fun trip! Margaritaville was soooo much fun! Comparing Glory to Magic, I much prefer Glory. The promenade in the Magic is basically outside where those hot tubs are. The is virtually no promenade inside. So you have to walk through the casino and smoke to get from the from to the back of the ship. I think the Glory is designed better. I was trying to take a nap when y'all were leaving GT and the hollering, whistling, etc was so loud so I had to go outside and join the fun! Glad y'all had a good cruise! Micahs Grandad Posted November 8, 2016 #13 Share Posted November 8, 2016 Since GT is a walk off port strange they would offer to walk you off the ship to get off faster
thechandlers99 Posted November 9, 2016 Author #14 Share Posted November 9, 2016 Since GT is a walk off port strange they would offer to walk you off the ship to get off faster Apparently it was offered in all the ports (all were walk off). We just missed the notices. They had a staircase roped off for priority. Sent from my iPhone using Forums

KPfromCT Posted November 9, 2016 #18 Share Posted November 9, 2016 (edited) Thanks for the great review!!! We are on the Magic and June, just a mere 228 days away.....:D:D We've been on the Breeze twice, and just LOVE the layout of that class.... No desire to do Conquest class of ship, as the "tiered" Lido doesn't appeal to us. Also, just the one old blue slide is not appealing after having experienced Water Works. Love the openness off the Lido on the Dream class, but to each their own.:D:D Did you guys try to the Pig & Anchor BBQ? If so, how was it? How were the meals in the MDR? Thanks again!!!!
