Alcohol policy question

Does any know if the "6 beers (no larger than 12 ounces)" that you can bring on board at the beginning of the voyage has to be in cans...or will they allow bottles?

It doesn't specify either cans or bottles. Should be OK to bring either, as long as each bottle/can is no larger than 12 oz.

The thread (that I started) below may not exactly answer your question but does bring up an interesting situation--- I'll let you read for yourself, but please note that one of the apparent problems we encountered was that our beer was in bottles. (Other problems too... just read the thread!)

Well, actually, your problem was that it was in the checked bags. Not that it was in bottles (regardless of what your Mom was told).

No where on the DCL website does it say the beer must be in cans (or bottles). It only states "6 beers, maximum size 12 oz each".

As stated above, alcohol may not be in checked bags. The poster who had issues had them because they had alcohol in checked bags.

No where does it specify whether beer must be in bottles or cans--either are acceptable provided the container is 12 ounces or less and that the alcohol is in carry on bags as required.

the_dylaness,

From the DCL website FAQ

Prohibited Items – Frequently Asked Questions

Q.

Are Guests allowed to bring alcoholic beverages on board the ship?

A.

Disney Cruise Line Guests 21 years and older may bring a maximum of 2 bottles of unopened wine or champagne (no larger than 750 ml) or 6 beers (no larger than 12 ounces) on board at the beginning of the voyage and at each port of call. These beverages must be packed in carry-on (not checked) bags or luggage.

Guests wishing to consume wine or champagne that they have brought on board in one of the dining rooms will be charged a corking fee of $25.00 per bottle.

Please note:

Any alcohol packed in checked luggage will be removed and stored until the end of the cruise.

Any wine or champagne in excess of 2 bottles or beer in excess of 6 beers will be stored until the end of the cruise.

Bringing liquors and spirits (including powdered alcohol) on board is prohibited. These items will be stored until the end of the cruise.

Guest MUST retrieve any stored alcohol at the end of the cruise. Items not retrieved will be destroyed and no compensation will be offered.

Alcohol brought on board may not be consumed in any lounge or public area.

DCL did nothing wrong. And the special beer your mom likes was able to be reclaimed at the end of the cruise but she chose not to.

Thanks everyone! I appreciate your responses! We were not planning on getting off the ship, but I heard there was a brewery in Nassau near the port. Since we can bring beer on at the ports, too... we may have to check it out....
