OK, so I have a booking for the 12/17 Miracle....and thus far....nobody is committing to tag along. I am going for sure (need some R&R on semester break), but I have never cruised alone. :(

Any advice? Tips? It'll also be my first Carnival cruise...usually on HAL or NCL.

Thank you all. Have a great day.

I find I love the solo trips I do. I have been travelling with family the last few trips and find myself really looking forward to this next one where I'm travelling solo for the first time in quite awhile although many of my early cruises were solo.

What I find is I actually meet more people without alot of effort when I travel solo than when I travel with other people. I don't tend to do dining room but from all I have heard Carnival is excellent at seating you with other solos.

Excursions I do private and a occasional Carnival and have never had a issue with being solo, just asked to be added as 1 person when booking with private tours and never had a issue feeling like odd man (or in my case girl) out. Always met people to chat with if I was in the mood.

Of course one of the best things on travelling solo is you don't have to work around anyone else, you do what you want when you want.

I'm a reader so kindle comes along loaded with books and movies for down time.

Enjoy, you may find like alot of us it can be one of your preferred ways to travel. I also recommend the solo board, great info and encouragement there.

All of my cruises have been solo and I have met some friends for life on them, In Fact some of the friends I have met while cruising, we now do a reunion cruise every year.

Dining- Never done your time dine solo, but with fixed time dining they have always been great in seating me with other solo's. John Heald from Carnival said to message him if you want to ensure your seated with solos as well haha.

Excursions- Always done carnival, but thats because I dont usually decide til the day before what I want to do haha.

Meeting people- Join the CC roll call for your group and be active, usually numerous meet ups on the ship with the CC roll call people, but also I've met enough people outside of CC roll calls, its great both ways.

I always load up a few books on my ipad as well for those times I want to just sit on deck and read for some quiet time.

Solo cruising is awesome, great memories and great friends, let yourself go, your on a ship with 3000 potential friends haha and everyone is just happy to be on vacation. Check out the solo and singles cruise critic forums as well.

I tried a solo cruise last year. I am a loner usually but realized I definitely don't prefer to cruise alone. There were only 5 (I think-maybe 6) other solo cruisers on the ship (per dining room staff who seated us all together). They were nice but no substitute for my usual cruising companion!

I do a lot of cruises by myself and love it. Gives me time to relax and unwind. It's nice not having to be at the mercy of someone else's schedule. I agree with joining a roll call. A bunch of us got together and rented a Villa at HMC last month and it was great! Another time we went to Little French Key and it turned out to be a perfect day. If you hit it off on the Roll Call, you can always have your reservations linked for dinner. Makes it a little less awkward than sitting with complete strangers. I have made some really super friends that way and we still talk many years later.

Let me know if you have any specific questions or concerns and I'll be happy to help out the best I can.

Cruised solo once in 2013 and had a great time. Couple seated beside me on flight were also on the same cruise with 2 other couples so the 7 of us shared transportation to the ship. Loved my tablemates and went to all the evening shows with one couple. Once onboard the 7 of us had lunch and chatted. During sea days I hung out at the pool and read or talked to others. On port days I went to the beach.

Just smile and be friendly and you will attract others.

I've been on 2 solo cruises out of the 18+ cruises I've been on. It took me a little while to feel comfortable the first time - much better the 2nd time.

I don't eat in the MDR when alone - I know CCL is suppose to be good at seating solos together, but I took those cruises solo for a reason - I wanted downtime on my own, so didn't really want to meet up with anyone.

I eat breakfast out on Lido with my Kindle. Normally for lunch and dinner I either make a plate from buffet or Guys, etc & take back to my cabin - or I use room service.

I was actually scheduled to cruise alone on the Sunshine December 26th - the first solo cruise in a few years - but, now my sister (my normal cruising buddy) may get the time off afterall. To be honest, I was kind of looking forward to being alone (lol).

It does take some getting use to, but I think you'll like it.

What can be so bad about doing what you want to do 24 hours a day for 7 days? A cruise is the perfect vacation for a solo traveler! You can always find companions if you want- chat with someone at the bar, by the pool or at a casino table: ask to be seated with others in the mdr even on your time dining, but be left alone to read, see a show or hang out on your balcony. The best thing is you never feel unsafe as you might if you went to a foreign country alone and were out at night.

I have never cruised solo, and I don't think it would be soemthing that I enjoy. However....

I had a very dear friend (who recently passed away, God love her). She was much like a mother to me and I miss her dearly, but that's another story. She was very socially awkward, not much of a people person, a total gem of a human being but hated crowds. I cruised often and she once asked if she could join me....I was so nervous on that trip that she would hate it, but she LOVED cruising...so much so that when I could no longer go on cruises with her (life gets in the way), she decided to cruise solo...I was worried for her then as well...but she LOVED that trip and made several friends who she cruised often with after that. I was pretty jealous I couldn't join her as often anymore, but super happy she made some cruising friends and had enjoyed cruising solo as well.

If it's something you are considering doing, I think you will be just fine!

I have no advice, as solo cruising is something I have yet to try but would like to someday. I just wanted to tell you how sweet your avatar is. :D

Thank you so much...that's my "little baby" Wodan....all 140 pounds of him or so. He will be 10 in January. :)

Just go and have fun doing the same things you enjoy when others do join you. I cruise solo all the time and absolutely love it. It is actually a great time away from work without having to cater to someone else's needs and wants. I take my mp3 player with me and thus never miss not talking. It's fun to get lost in your own little world on a beautiful ship in paradise. I never give solo cruising a second thought. To me, it's just another cruise, and I enjoy having a cabin to myself. I usually watch a movie or two in my cabin on Carnival's movie channels, which is something I rarely get to do at home.

I don't mind at all dining alone, and there are lots of activities that are suited to solos. I enjoy the slot tournament a lot for example. And if I'm in the mood to talk with others, there are always plenty of friendly people around to meet and chat with. If dining solo does bother you, you can always ask to be seated in the dining room at a large table with other solos.

Have a great solo cruise!

That's awesome! We have 3 "little babies" (we didn't mean to--they're all rescues & one was supposed to be a foster--but you can imagine how long that lasted). Thor, Cannon & Simba (the little one, only 115 lbs). They're 7 (on Thanksgiving Day), 5 & 3.:)
