sueswny Posted November 24, 2016 #1 Share Posted November 24, 2016 I love river cruising, and I've been on almost all the European itineraries--some more than once! Next year I'm trying something different. It's a 7-night trip on a luxury TRAIN in Northern Spain. The Transcantabrico Gran Lujo. It operates like a river cruise, with sleeping accommodations on the train, included sightseeing most of the day, meals included (in local restaurants), and more. Only 28 people on the entire train. I talked to someone who did this trip a couple of years ago and he RAVED about it--so I'm giving it a try. There are 10 of us going in September 2016, so it this interests you, you might want to join us? (It's probably nicer if you know there will be a group of English-speaking guests, since the trip is sold internationally.)
Floridiana Posted November 24, 2016 #2 Share Posted November 24, 2016 Sounds like fun, but so far, price has always kept us from booking a luxury train ride.
Rare Host Jazzbeau Posted November 24, 2016 #3 Share Posted November 24, 2016 (edited) To combine a luxury rail journey with a river cruise, you might consider AmaWaterway's Rivers & Rails of Africa itinerary [3 nights in Cape Town, followed by a 4-night safari cruise, 2 nights in Victoria Falls, and a 3-night Rovos Rail train journey from Victoria Falls to Pretoria] http://www.amawaterways.com/rivers-&-rails-of-africa-2017 Edited November 24, 2016 by Host Jazzbeau

Talisker92 Posted December 5, 2016 #5 Share Posted December 5, 2016 For something REALLY different, try the Trans Siberian Express . 14 days from Moscow to Vladavostok http://stevekathytravels.com/sitebuildercontent/sitebuilderfiles/aroundtheworldin16days2006.pdf

And the prices? -- your last name had better be 'Romanov'!!! Edited December 5, 2016 by Host Jazzbeau
