euro cruiser Posted November 26, 2016 #2 Share Posted November 26, 2016 (edited) You can take a public Cotral bus from near the cruise port shuttle bus drop-off point or you can take a train and a bus from there. The bus stop in Civitavecchia is on Via Settembre XVI, a short walk from the shuttle bus stop. You can purchase the bus ticket (€1,30) along the way from any tabacco store. The ride takes just under a half hour and the stop in Tarquinia is called Barriera S. Giusto (located at Piazza Cavour in Tarquinia). Some of the pages of the Tarquinia tourism site are in English: http://www.tarquiniaturismo.it/en/ The Cotral web site is a little harder to figure out but you can see the bus schedule to Tarquinia by first inputing "DA CIVITAVECCHIA" and "A TARQUINIA". Next, to get the specific bus schedules select these two: Partenza da p.zza Vittorio and Transita per / Arriva a Barriera S.Giusto Cotral site: http://servizi.cotralspa.it/Orari Edited November 26, 2016 by euro cruiser
Rare cruisemom42 Posted November 26, 2016 #3 Share Posted November 26, 2016 To add to eurocruiser's good logistics, the bus stop at Tarquinia will put you very close to the excellent Etruscan museum there. You will probably also want to visit the necropolis, with its wonderful painted tombs. You can walk it from the museum in about 30 minutes, or you can take a local bus from near the same place where your bus dropped you. It used to be that only a few tombs were open on any given day, but when I was there about two years ago, nearly all of the tombs were open (albeit behind a plexiglas viewing area that could sometimes be extremely smudged and frustrating....
