Rather blows my theory away then! :D Unless they've found the economics work better (for them) ditching Rhodes?? Or is that too cynical?

But they're going to Rhodes for our cruise which makes perfect sense in the area.

It may be because Rhodes seemed to be pretty much winding down for the season when we were there. We were told by our tour guide that our cruise would be the last to call there until next spring. It wasn't obvious why that should be; Rhodes town and Lindos seemed like the sort of places that would be attractive destinations at any time of the year.

Hi Pete from Stoke ;-)

We're on a different cruise. Our info from P&O has told us that in August the 17night cruise on Ventura from Southampton is going to Rhodes not Turkey.

I was skipping before I read the boards. Still smiling ... despite fighting through the traffic tonight :)

Traffic? Stoke on Trent? Surely not!

I cannot understand why Rhodes is off limits for anyone. It is a great destination, and seems capable of handling multiple cruise ships. Enjoy it (unless they change the itinerary again).

We have been to Rhodes twice and I just love the place. We were secretly hoping that they might change the Ephesus port for Rhodes. Next year will be more complicated as we would have to be there on Easter Sunday.

I think I have posted somewhere else that I can't understand why they don't make more use of Cyprus mid season. A lovely, very popular island with lots to see.

Having checked the map, it's now quite clear to me why they have had to drop Rhodes as a result of dropping Ephesus. It's simply to far out from the rest of the itinerary. It would have probably meant 2 days at sea to next port and dropping another port of call altogether to keep Rhodes It's a real pity but I understand what they have had to do

I should know better, but I'm feeling really aggrieved by P&O's changes. Have just spent a chunk of the afternoon with my TA, who received a whole load (possibly a boatload) of differing responses about this from one P&O representative on a single call. It ranged from no changes can be made to we can cancel in full as long as we tell P&O by Monday! TA will check again on Monday, but I expect I'm stuck with a holiday I wouldn't chose, paying significantly more than I think the itinerary's worth.

This is the second of three cruises I've taken with P&O where two ports in seven days have been abandoned/changed for the worse and in no way meet expectations. I realise things happen on cruises - they've happened to us with other lines - usually due to the weather. But, whenever P&O make changes to itineraries it reeks of commercialism and a way to make a fast buck. Time to try another line and see if that suits us better I think.

Thank you for letting me vent - I'd hoped that my first post after a lurking for a while would have been in more propitious circumstances.

Thought that might be the case. Once they committed to Sarande, disappointing as it is that Rhodes has gone, I guess an extra sea day plus the loss of another port for the extra sailing time just wouldn't be a proposition.

As others have said, a trip to Butrint NP is well worth the effort.

Especially if history is your thing and you had planned to do Ephesus from Kusadasi.

We didn't have a walk around Sarande after the trip so can't comment on the Town itself. After a tiring trip we just wanted to get back onboard for a rest. You have to be reasonably fit to get the best out of Butrint in the July heat, it's worth the effort though.
