UBP Question

We booked on the Gem and received the beverage package. My is how is beer served...by the glass or bottle?

Whichever one you ask for. Both are included. If you look at the Terms and Conditions of the promo you will see everything that is included or excluded.

My last NCL cruise I drank mostly Heineken, 12oz bottles. I don't care for draft so much so it's bottles or cans. Budweiser products were all in cans.

On the Escape there was one bar (I forget the name) that had a great selection of draft beers so I tried a couple.

A year ago there was one cabernet that didn't suck.

I know, that isn't a glowing review but it is way better than the LaTerre and the Tisdale that they had in the past. THAT was some vile stuff.

 

The beer list is just awful.

It could charitably called a wide selection. It isn't a nice selection.

Then enjoy what you call swill on the other smaller, older NCL vessels that don't have as good a selection. If you don't cruise for the beer, then why preytel are you so upset about "the swill".

Because it's a poor selection of .... swill. It wouldn't be difficult for them to offer up some variety. The Escape proves the point.

Compared to the last couple of cruises I've been on, this actually seems to be a pretty good selection. Thanks for posting these.

So....we had the same opinion of large gigantic ships as poster luddite - you couldnt pay us either to go on one of those ships. Well, one cruise certificate expiring, limited time, decided to give it a shot on Escape as the NCL Caribbean pickings were pretty slim....

 

LOVED IT!!! The ship didn't seem big, we had virtually NO lines anywhere and there were 4000 people on the ship. The pool area was tight and could be better, but overall we were fine. Oh wait... yes 1 line... for the slide! 😃

The District was our favorite hangout. There were 84 beers to choose from and several I loved. Not sure what specific beer Luddite is looking for. The selection was as good as the RCCL's pub on the Serenade of the Seas.

 

Highly recommend the ship and that bar. Our cabin was 3 doors from the front elevators on the port side, deck 14. Perfect location for us.

I understand the different restrictions involved but can I get more than one drink at a time with the same card? We will both have the UBP but I'm hoping that I can pick up a drink for both of us and bring them back to the room or where ever else we might be hanging out.

They aren't supposed to do that. Which doesn't mean that they won't.

My experience on the Breakaway in November was that they will give you up to two drinks per card. If you are tipping the bartenders a buck a drink regularly and are clearly not breaking any rules (like sharing with people that dont have UBP) they'll be pretty darn flexible.

Initially I'd bring both cards to a bar and get 2 drinks. After a day or so, with us being together most of the time, when I'd order a drink by myself in 2 of the bars we were regulars,, they would ask if I wanted one for Jeffrey too.

So, I think at a random bar, no but with an established relationship yes.

They did tell me 75% of the passengers had UBP, so maybe that influenced giving drinks without the other card there.

Have you ever seen a soft serve ice cream stand offer vanilla, chocolate and swirl (mixture of vanilla and chocolate)? I'm sure the cruise line will offer white, red and rose wine.

 

Escape seems to have a very good beer menu. Might be far too many choices Beer has a quality shelf life of maybe 6 months. Does anyone think a cruise line will monitor the age of beers and discard old? Do we even think they'll do a good job rotating stock? Excluding dry dock. I'd rather a smaller selection of fresh beer over a larger selection of stale beer.

You ask whether you can get two drinks with the same card. Not necessarily. In my experience, they often want to swipe both cards, even if you are both there and they know you.

 

However, I can honestly say that I have ever had any trouble getting two drinks as long as I have both cards, even though I'm by myself. That applies whether or not the server knows us or not.

 

So basically, based on my experiences, it's no problem getting a drink for both of you, but take both cards when you do so.

Some folks like the craft beer that changes constantly taste like it was brewed in a bath tub.

They had quite a few beers from different parts of the world I found very good including American beer.

I wonder what people drank before the craft fad popped up. Been to several of these places and they are very inconsistent and you may try 7 drinks before you find one palatable and the next time you go there they do not have it ... lol

You realize these are not craft beers there may be 2 or 3 micro brews on this whole list these are beers from around the world.

I know founders was considered a micro brew not very tasty but a micro there are a few more the rest of theses beers are from all over the place and definitely mass produced

Thanks for sharing. Too many people on here complaining about the beer selection. Personally this looks pretty good to me but then again I'm happy as long as I can have Coors light or a Jack and Coke...

People complain about the beer selection on the other NCL ships. The menus above are specifically available in one bar on the Escape. If they were on all ships then there wouldn't be as many complaints.
