Can you take a Travel Iron on Celebrity?

Will Celebrity ( ZENITH) allow you to pack a travel iron? I have heard other cruise lines don't want you to. Zenith has laundry service but I would like to do my own.

Not to start a fire, BUT-What about smoking and throwing the butts off of the balconies? Or falling asleep with a butt in your hand?

I agree. What about curing irons hair dryers batter chargers (for cameras). Anything can be a fire hazard if not monitored. I am not disagreeing that it could be a hazard just pointing out that anything electrical can potentially be a fire hazard.

I bet I just added fuel to this thread.:eek:

Lets just not go there with other fire hazards. Travel irons are not permitted in cabins, period. Bring a travel steamer if you don't want to use the laundry service. No other cruise line allows travel irons, and neither does Celebrity.

I am not stirring the pot. But, does Celebrity or any cruise line have it in writing that certain items are not allowed onboard? I think I have seen cruise lines mention liquor and beer are not allowed to be brought onboard.

:D just thought of something now that I know irons should not be taken on board I will have extra room in my suitcase " No need for the ironing board now" :)

Please do not feel bad about some of the answers or advise that was given to you.

Some of us are 'real experts' on everything and anything connected with cruising, regardless if 'we' cruised once or a hundred times.

We also quickly forget that 'we' were here as new members not so long ago asking the same questions as the 'new' people doing it now.

Some cruise lines are very specific about "irons" and they do list them either on their web sites or travel documents as an item not to be taken on board. Celebrity does not list the 'iron' anywhere as an item to take or item forbidden. The only time one will find out that they do not 'allow' the iron - is when watching a video about safety.....when you are already in your cabin........way, way to late to find this at that time.

No question in the wrong hands iron and many other things are a hazard.

But since you are not taking the ironig board - the iron will be of no use anyhow.

Actually, Celebrity does mention bringing irons under their Frequently Asked Questions section under "Staterooms". It says:

 

Are there irons and boards in the staterooms? No, but there is a full service laundry on board (charges apply).

 

Can I bring my own iron on board? No

 

Hope that answers the question - personally, I love to be able to take my travel iron.

Mine is from Wal-Mart and is a travel steamer/iron. Believe me, it does not heat up like an "iron". I just use the steamer part. I have taken it on every cruise and never had a problem. :)

Thanks for most of the advice I received on this. It helps being able to ask questions even if some think they are dumb questions. The reason I check these boards is for advice from seasoned cruisers that know the in's & out's but also know how to reply with grace to cruisers I thank-you and with that I shall cruise the deep blue waters and be HAPPY.

Obviously passengers do bring travel irons, and use them. However, I have never seen a travel iron that had an automatic shut-off when left unattended. I think it would be far safer for Celebrity to supply an iron and fold-down board. This way, it would be an iron that had an automatic shutoff, rather than the guest's iron that stays on and stays hot.

 

I don't understand why a travel iron is out for safety reasons, but hair irons, and even worse...smoking in cabins, in bed or on upholstered cabin furniture is not prohibited for the same reason.

I brought my travel iron on the Century & I had no problem. My room steward saw it in the room & he never said anything about it. Just be careful with it & it will probably be fine.

Okay-I know the "rules" about irons being a fire hazard. I have been ironing clothes for years and never once had to use an extinguisher:DLOL

 

Question: If one were to bring their own iron on board how would one go about it ;)
