Looking to buy OBC for upcoming cruise, but can't seem to find where to do it on RCI website. Any suggestions?

Can't do it directly on the website, you have to do a gift certificate thing which is a hassle to redeem.

Better to call 800-722-5443 and buy it directly.

Why??? Perhaps you could explain the difference between paying RCL now for OBC versus paying RCL right after the cruise is over for what you spent.

Some people like to buy OBC as 'forced savings' for their cruise, and allocate it to their onboard account in advance. Others purchase it as a gift for friends or family.

OBC used to be available for purchase online, it is Gifts & Gear item #651. And the OBC you purchase is fully refundable at Guest Services- if any remains at the end of your cruise. :)

Another reason for those of us living outside the US is currency exchange. I purchased $1000 USD worth of OBC in September 2015 for a cruise this coming March. At that time, RCI's exchange rate was $1.10 CAD. RCI was recently charging $1.40 CAD. I clearly saved a tidy sum by purchasing the OBC in advance.

Because, this time we will be gone for over 2 months and sometimes you can't get your CC payment to go through from foreign ports (happened to me once before).

And thanks to all, called and got it booked!

There was also a popular AMEX promotion where you got a $100 statement credit when spending $450 with RCI. That's why a lot of people (including me) were buying OBC ahead of time...
