2xsin12mths Posted January 30, 2017 #1 Share Posted January 30, 2017 So I'm thinking of finally biting the bullet and getting Cheers for hubby and me. May is our 10th year of cruising and our 20th anniversary cruise. We are sailing on Sunshine and it is an 8 day but not a port heavy cruise (3 ports) which means we will be at Alchemy ALOT! Lucky for us it doesn't open till 5:00 or we would probably not remember the cruise:D...those silly cucumber sunrises are amazing! Anyway, if I do decide to purchase I want to before the cruise since it's alittle cheaper. Couple questions: Does it start the first day you get on since you do not actually leave port till 4:00. But of course you can start drinking at noon when you get on. And second, I'm alittle confused about bottled water. I always pay to have two 12 packs of water in my room ahead of time (I drink ALOT of water) and am wondering if this is part of Cheers. Meaning if I go the bar can I get a bottle of water as part of Cheers. Another reason I'm leaning towards Cheers is they have added specialty coffee. Hubby and I always go to the coffee bar at least twice a day to get a good Americano. I HATE CARNIVAL COFFEE! Thanks for any help....96 days...woohoo!! doneinne Posted January 30, 2017 #2 Share Posted January 30, 2017 Yes it starts as soon as you get on the ship. Yes bottled water is included, I got it from the coffee bar. You can keep going back every 5 minutes and stock pile them. Sent from my iPhone using Forums

RiotAct Posted January 30, 2017 #4 Share Posted January 30, 2017 Note that in a couple states, I think it's Texas and New York, Cheers can't take effect until the day after embarkation day due to state laws. So if you're sailing out if Galveston or NYC, keep that in mind.
stobe1 Posted January 30, 2017 #5 Share Posted January 30, 2017 You will still pay state sales tax on each drink while in port.
CMOTO Posted January 30, 2017 #6 Share Posted January 30, 2017 You will still pay state sales tax on each drink while in port. Is this at every port?? I'm going to cayman island, Montego Bay, Cozumel so how much tax would I be paying if I stay on the ship those days and drink??

firemanbobswife Posted January 31, 2017 #8 Share Posted January 31, 2017 You will still pay state sales tax on each drink while in port. Only when in a US port.

The Caribbean islands do not have sales tax.
Tapit Posted January 31, 2017 #10 Share Posted January 31, 2017 I had to pay .19 cents for each soda I bought with the soda card at Galveston. Sent from my iPhone using Forums
stobe1 Posted January 31, 2017 #11 Share Posted January 31, 2017 (edited) Only when in a US port. Clearly, that was implied. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G890A using Forums mobile app Edited January 31, 2017 by stobe1

State sales tax if you are in the Continental US. If you are in Puerto Rico, you get charged tax but it's not a state, it's a US territory. So again, as I said, when in a US Port.
