sagittarius Posted February 7, 2017 #4 Share Posted February 7, 2017 (edited) I am taking a 12 day cruise to the British Isles in June 2017. on the Caribbean Princess. I can't afford to take excursions in every port. any suggestions on ones that I can do on my own? Several of the ports have the hop on hop off buses which are a great way to see the places. And if you join your date roll call then often independent trips can be organised with your fellow passengers which keeps costs down. And Greenock if you go there offer free tours. phabric Posted February 7, 2017 #5 Share Posted February 7, 2017 I took the town bus around Guernsery. It was about a 1 hour and goes every hour. I was on the first bus and it was full of Princess passengers and when we returned there was a huge line. The bus is used by the locals. Cash to the driver. There is a bus information booth at the bus depot. Can get an all day pass to be used like a Hop On Hop Off bus. There is a castle within walking distance of the dock. Guernsey has their own money that is is not accepted outside of Guernsery so ask for British £ if getting cash back. Princess offers a $ shuttle into Dublin and then take the Hop On Hop Off. Edinburgh is a tender port. There was a private coach company offering a cheaper £ shuttle dockside. Check out Cruise Critic - Port of Call - Britain for ideas. lake5298 Posted February 7, 2017 #6 Share Posted February 7, 2017 Liverpool - the cruise ship terminal is right in the centre of the city. Can easily explore on foot or by short taxi runs. Cobh (Cork is the main city) - the ship is right by the small town which is easy to walk round. Dublin - take the shuttle from the port into the city, there is a hop-on hop-off bus once you are in the city. Invergordon (Inverness is the main city) - the ship is right by the small town which is easy to walk round.
Alaskanb Posted February 7, 2017 #7 Share Posted February 7, 2017 Here are our tours: In Belfast we will be DIY and visiting the Titanic Experience and a pub --using taxis for transportation. Our port time is a little odd. Our other DIY place is South Queensferry where we will visit the local museum on a walking tour (or on our own), hopefully have time for a pub lunch, then a taxi to Hopetoun House for a tour of the house, afternoon tea and stroll around the gardens. We have been to Edinburgh several times. In Guernsey we plan on a Princess tour based on the book "Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Society " . It's an easy place to walk around. Cobh is a Blarney Kinsale tour with ecoach http://www.ecoach.ie/ Dublin we are doing a small group tour with Beautiful Meath http://beautifulmeath.com/county-wicklow-tour/ We are there on a Sunday so places were opening late Greenock --visiting family Kirkwall is one you need to reserve soon --we are touring with Orkney Aspects and it has been fully booked for months. LeHavre we will be with Overlord Tours 9B. http://www.overlordtour.com/overlord...ts-in-bus.html It has great reviews and we get to see both D-Day history, Bayeux, and Honfleur. I can't afford to take excursions in every port. any suggestions on ones that I can do on my own? You can refer to Tom's Port Guide for DIY on some BI port itineraries. I also use this for ours. I load the file on my iPad and refer to it offline when in the port. http://www.tomsportguides.com/port-guides.html
