Are passengers allowed to bring wine on board? Are wine packages available. How are the selections?

Yes, you can bring your own wine on board -- also hard liquor. Technically there is a limit of 3 bottles but this is rarely (maybe never) enforced. Many people report bringing on one or more cases of wine. I have brought on more than 3 bottles although no more than 5 or 6.

 

This is meant for consumption in your room only, so if you drink the wine in a public venue (like a bar or dining room) there is a corkage fee of $25.

 

There is a wine package available but it's a minimum of 7 bottles (I believe) and most people seem to feel it is overpriced for the wines that are offered. I haven't tried this version myself.

Yes, we bring wine for the cabin and for dining. I think it's better to pay the $25 fee- that way you can bring on very good wine at a much better cost with fee or wines they don't have. But now we don't drink-so no more shipping.

The Oceania wine list varies over time but is consistently priced as high or higher than an expensive restaurant. Opinions vary on the selections available. We can usually find a couple of whites and a couple of reds that we like and are not crazy expensive. On a long cruise the wine list gets really old unless you like to drink the same wine every day. As stated, the 7 bottle deal is not considered a good deal even compared to buying off the wine list as needed but is convenient for some.

 

We have hand carried a case of wine on board several times. No problems. Generally bringing your own wine and paying the $25 corkage is a good value and you get to drink a wine you know you will like. Note that there is no additional service fee on the corkage fee but there is on a bottle purchase. Another nice service is that the wine steward will store your unfinished wine in their cellar and bring it to you at your next meal.

Do you leave the bottles in your checked baggage and have them delivered to the room or do you keep them with you in your carry on bag when you board the ship?

 

Also, you said they don't seem to mind if we bring hard liquor on board? Is this also true when the cruise originates in a US city?

WE take wine or spirits in our carry on

Yes you can take spirits for use in your cabin

We've done it both ways. No one has ever asked us if we are bringing alcohol on board. Obviously, if you have a case of wine with you they are going to notice!
