Hello everyone.I'm a newbie here.

I am being sent by my family on a cruise in yc this May but I am a bit nervous.

Firstly this is my first and am travelling solo. It is a great experience I believe but I feel that I may be out of my depth here . Is it only for the rich and famous or do people who save go here to experience the club. It is a present as I have been ill and am looking forward to quietness and scenery of fjords but don't want to feel out of place in my primary clothes . Also will i pack a bit of everything for Norwegian fjords. You may have guessed am female early fifties . Thanks in advance.

You need have no concerns about YC - you'll find a great variety of people. Many are happy to keep themselves to themselves, but there are always some who like to mix. I can assure you, I'm neither rich nor famous LOL. Both myself and DH are just ordinary, decent citizens who splurge now and then for YC. You'll be treated just as well by the crew regardless of who or what you are. Relax and look forward to a wonderful cruise - you're sure to have plenty of peace and quiet and will have the best views of the fjords from the Top Sail Lounge - Enjoy!!

Hi, and welcome! It's certainly not for the rich and famous and you will get a mix of people who always cruise Yacht Club as they can afford it but also people who only holiday occasionally and therefore save up for it.

The dress code on MSC is very relaxed - if you think about what you'd wear for a night with friends or a meal at a nice pub/restaurant for the evenings you'll be just fine.

Depending on when you're cruising will determine what you need to pack, but, if your cruise is a week long, take a nice frock or smart trouser suit for the formal night (not a ball gown, just something a bit glitzy if you so wish) if you want to use the hot tub and swimming pool then a cozzie, jeans / trousers / shorts for during the day, cardigan / jumper and a pac a mac type thing would be a good idea.

If you're in the UK, Jane McDonald did a programme last Friday - she gave some packing tips

Hi :)

I did my first MSC cruise a few weeks ago - also in YC

I am a solo female, similar age to yourself........and had absolutely the best time!

Like you I was a bit worried - I'm quite the introvert, and felt I would be out of my depth. I couldn't have been more wrong. The staff were all just wonderful, and the butlers have an amazing ability to provide wonderful service without being intrusive in any way. The concierge ladies were so kind and helpful, and I smiled every evening being greeted as 'signorina' and escorted to my table in the restaurant.

Wear what you feel comfortable in, but take something a bit glitzy for the gala night. I wasn't going to go to to the cocktail party as I was on my own, but my butler made sure I was well looked after and it was a real pleasure to meet the Captain and have a brief chat with him - very Italian, very charming :D

Go, relax and enjoy yourself........you'll have a great time!

Hi Darcy 15.

Cheers for that.

Am delighted to hear that you had such a good time solo travelling. I am quite quiet but will mix but fair play on going to the gala do . I had planned to avoid the captain.

Go to the cocktail party .....it was beautifully managed [emoji4]

I wouldn't normally dream of attending anything like that, but I felt so at home and comfortable in the YC

You will be spoiled and treated very well so have no fears and it is not for the rich and famous.

Please, please let us know how it went after your trip!

I'm also going solo on YC in sept and would love to know about eating solo in the yc restaurant.

Have fun!

@TrishabhilI'm from 27th in Board from the Fantasia :-) Cool so we are two solo Travellers in the YC. I m a female in the early forties.

This is great and there may be a few more but you are a seasoned traveller . I am really pleased to have got so many helpful replies here and there is so much info. I travel from Dublin to Copenhagen on Sat morning as its an ealy flight so going to spend time looking around. I booked the Scandi for Sat night so I have plenty of time to get to port on Sun. Looks like at least one party dress Nikita. How are you in regards travelling solo.

We've done the yacht club on Divina and loved it. Top sail lounge is the best. Service terrific. Italian food in Le Muse was the best we've ever eaten. Only issue for us was the lack of shade at the one pool or anywhere else on this ship. I'm hoping they correct this on Seaside. It I'm not hopeful because there have been other complaints about this issue on Divina and it appears that they haven't done anything about it yet.
