I just booked online a cruise with Norweigian Epic for 2018. The offer included a "free drink package" for the 11 day cruise. When I paid my deposit and received the invoice via email, I saw an onboard service charge for $156. Is this to cover the bar gratuities? Also, can you pre-pay tips for dining and cabin personnel as they do on other cruise lines?

The UBP is $79 per person per day. In your case, it is $869. The service charge/gratuity on that amount at 18% is the $156.42.

You do not have to tip extra but can if you'd like.

 

You can pre-pay your DSC ($13.50 per person per day or $15.50 per person per day if in a suite).

You will pay 18% of the cost of the drink package as tips. If you haven't prepaid your DSC (or tips for cabin attendant, and wait staff), they will add it to your shipboard account.

The $156 is the service charge on the drink package. It acts as any necessary bar gratuities.

 

 

You may prepay your daily service charge anytime up until about72 hours prior to sailing, just like on other cruise lines.

Actually, they can be added at anytime up to 24 hours prior to sailing.
