Grumm Posted November 15, 2005 #28 Share Posted November 15, 2005 Al,I see you are from Scotland. You must know then, that the Dalai Lama was blown away with Dundee Cake when he visited your country. Were you in the Windjammer when he threw a hissie-fit because all they had were chocolate donuts. It was sad to watch as he exited yelling... "Where's my Dundee?... Where's my Dundee?" Yogi Yeah I Was there Yogi. A sad sight indeed. The hissie-fit was bad enough, but when he levitated and relieved himself over the seafood section I decided to leave and have a beer. I also thought his orange Speedo was in bad taste. Al
suzyluvs2cruise Posted November 15, 2005 #29 Share Posted November 15, 2005 Frankie Avalon had a photo session on the Legend of the Seas a few years ago on an Alaksa cruise. You should have seen the line of middle aged women waiting to have their picture taken with him!!! Also did a country western cruise on the Norway in 1995. The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band and their families were one of the entertainers. They were very friendly and participated in most of the onboard activities just like the rest of us. hopegrad Posted November 15, 2005 #30 Share Posted November 15, 2005 Vincent Price - it was on the Royal Viking Sky, a cruise from Montreal to New York in 1987, and over Halloween! We were told he sailed with them every Halloween week. He was not an entertainer, just on vacation. We spoke to him in one of the lounges one night, and he and his wife were on the same shore excursion as us in Newport, Rhode Island.
yogimax Posted November 15, 2005 #31 Share Posted November 15, 2005 Yeah I Was there Yogi. A sad sight indeed. The hissie-fit was bad enough, but when he levitated and relieved himself over the seafood section I decided to leave and have a beer. I also thought his orange Speedo was in bad taste. Al Hi Al, It was actually the orange speedo (a leftover from Christo and Jeanne-Claude's "Gates" exhibition in New York last winter) that attracted Paris Hilton. I overheard her saying, "I love men in orange speedos!" As you say, though, it was in bad taste and violated the dress code for the Windjammer. He actually had to levitate to avoid being removed by security. Fortunately, he did volunteer for the evening's magic show, where folks got a big rise out of him! mkringen Posted November 15, 2005 #33 Share Posted November 15, 2005 On another cruise Bowser from Sha Na Na had a band and preformed. One night in the atrium he had a autograph session. We got a signed photo and a picture with him. It was pretty cool. Well this is my story exactly. So no need to re-type it. We were on the Enchantment in Feb. 2002. He was not the skinny, young thing anymore. He was very nice and I was happy to get his signed picture. Michelle in SoCal Vision 4/9/
FitzLA Posted November 15, 2005 #34 Share Posted November 15, 2005 As another poster said, "Real" celebrities would not be on a cruise ship with the masses. They would be on their own chartered yacht. I see more in Hawaii when I am there, and since I live in Los Angeles and grew up in an "entertainment family", I have met many. I wouldn't consider many of the pervious mentioned people "celebrities".

39august Posted November 15, 2005 #36 Share Posted November 15, 2005 Samuel L. Jackson and his wife or girlfriend were on the Brilliance to Panama Canal this past April. I didn't meet him, but saw him a couple of times. A couple I came to know were in a suite 1 cabin down from him, and they spoke with him a few times. The man joked with me about how their room steward addressed him as Mr. Terry, his first name. But he always addressed SLJ as Mr. Jackson.

Travelgrrl Posted November 15, 2005 #39 Share Posted November 15, 2005 Alan, Wayne, Merrill, Jay and Donny were the original group. Later Marie and Jimmy performed too. Worshipped them as kids, along with the Cowsills, Bobby Goldsboro, Jack Wild, the Jackson Five, David Soul, and Bobby Sherman! Oh my! Travelgrll, In the 80s I worked in a beer/wine store in Vancouver, BC at a bluesy pub. The entertainer in the bar was Billy Cowsill. He was pretty rough looking then, and I had no idea who he was. My sister (who is 10 years older than me), knew... the cowsills, the cowsills. I had no idea. He was their regular entertainer for a few years! Just him and his guitar.
megsterl Posted November 15, 2005 #41 Share Posted November 15, 2005 My aunt and Uncle were on a cruise one year and the olson twins were having a family reunion. That was still when they were younger and looked like young ladies and not 95 year old ladies. My aunt said that it was awful the kids were running mad all over the ship trying to find them. Travelgrrl Posted November 15, 2005 #42 Share Posted November 15, 2005 Bill was one of the older Cowsill boys, my sister was sooooo in love with John Cowsill, she had all of their records and several scrapbooks and so on, all about the Cowsills. My other sister liked Donny Osmond, I got relegated to Peter Tork of the Monkees! The Cowsills were the original family that "The Partridge Family" was patterned after - supposedly they were offered a change to star in it themselves but declined - leading to stardom for the (mostly) non-singing 'Partridges' - and the long slippery slide downhill for the Cowsills! They were cool, though. I'd still like to see one of them!
bigscrb15 Posted November 15, 2005 #43 Share Posted November 15, 2005 I was on the same cruise and you are correct that it was the Dalai Lama. Unfortunately, you had a few too many beers and confused your stars... it was Paris Hilton, not Pamela Anderson! I too was on that cruise. Thank you for correcting him. I was worried that I dressed up funny that night, because I spent all night in my cabin with Pam and I am glad to find out that I didn't look like the Dali Lama. I would look more like Budah. btw, does a Baywatch Marathon count as spending all night with Pam?

DebbieO Posted November 15, 2005 #47 Share Posted November 15, 2005 We met Charo a few years ago on a Hawaii cruise. She gives a terrific performance. We met John Davidson for the second time last month on the Serenade (Panama members' cruise). His show was also fabulous. He will be 65 next month. His hair is now natural (grey) but he still looks great. He took pictures with everybody the next day where he did a question and answer period in the lounge. Also have met the Fifth Dimension, several times, Bobby Rydell, Ojays (sp) and Frank Gorshin (sp).

cbryteach Posted November 15, 2005 #49 Share Posted November 15, 2005 John Davidson was from That's Incredible. I think there were other things before that. He was on my Serenade cruise last November. He was about 10 people down during the safety drill. The girl standing was like..."that is someone famous, who is it.?" I NEVER recognize anyone and his name came right out. He really started hamming it up. I saw his show, it was quite different. I think I heard he was a singer prior to That's Incredible, but that is really all I remember him from.
It'sRC4ME Posted November 15, 2005 #50 Share Posted November 15, 2005 We met Lorenzo Neil from the San Diego Chargers a couple of years ago on the Golden Princess. He played blackjack with my husband. We ran into him a couple of other times too, and he said Hi! He was so huge in person. The casino gave him a free T-shirt (for being famous, I guess), but it was WAY too small, so he gave it to my husband. He was pretty cool, just cruising with his wife.
