Princess or NCL similar Itinerary

Hi everyone, I'm doing some research on a cruise next year and slowly getting a shortlist. On my list there are two similar itinerary's with a reasonable price difference, I was hoping someone might be able to tell me if the cheaper one would be just as good or is it you get what you pay for.

Princess: Denmark-New York Sept 8th/2018 on Regal $3799 Balcony

NCL: Denmark-New York Oct 2/2018 on Breakaway $2278 Balcony with free drinks and dining

I have sailed on Regal a number of times, including the Baltics from Copenhagen, most recent was last Oct 2016.

To know more about the Regal, there is a review by a cruiser that has great information and actual photos of the Regal: It is much more expensive though based on your quote.

We sail NCL the most. We find all the free on board promos to be a good value.

Breakaway has a lot of on board bells & whistles if that is important to you. I would probably prefer that on a transatlantic because I'd be bored stupid otherwise.

We sailed Princess once. It didn't fit us. We found it too sleepy with no night life & not enough going on onboard. It was a quality product & we could appreciate it for what it was; we just liked NCL better.

As a general rule, you get what you pay for. While the price difference is substantial, I think it is "reasonable", considering the difference in quality of product offered. In my case, I would definitely go for Princess.

Thanks easyboy, I've sailed on Dawn princess and loved it even though it was an older ship but I have no experience with NCL, are they in the same class as Princess?

Sorry but choice of ship, like food, is subjective. It boils down to preferences. We like the facilities, and the ambience, that we have while onboard. Others may not like it. You may just have to know what you expect and choose the ship that provides them. The link I provided you includes what you can expect from Regal as one of your choice.

My family cruised on Princess for the first time last spring. Not very much to do on at sea days. We heard that the food on Princess is better than Carnival & NCL but we found that wasn't true at all. My vote is for NCL.

Thanks for the input guys, I guess, as others have said, that everyone is different so maybe just take a plunge and see what happens.

Anyway I'll keep,it near the top of the list as it's really good value with the free perks.

Breakaway is a lovely ship. The thing to consider is that you will probably want to go to specialty restaurants onboard as they are so good. I highly recommend Ocean Blue and Le Bistro. Also, this ship has the BEST thermal suite in the spa at sea - even better than Regal's! The negatives of this ship are:

1. Smokey casino right in the heart of the ship stinks up the atrium area and nearby restaurants outdoors. So smokey that I had to change my clothes if I was even in the casino for 5 minutes or so. The stench made it impossible for me to enjoy playing slots in the casino.

2. Crowding around the main pool. Just not enough space at all. For us, this is NOT a problem as we never go sit around the pool - we prefer to go in the spa where it is uncrowded and quiet and has sweeping views across the bow of the ship from heated tile loungers.

Keep in mind that on NCL there is a service charge on drinks and specialty dining that is not included with the free perk. You will pre-pay the drinks service charge and the specialty dining service charge with your final payment. You will see it on your invoice. The perks are still a good value though.
