Anyone ever forget cash in their safe on board?

Personally we pack up the safe the night before and stick everything in our carry out bag

Once we are back in the room for the evening the safe belongings are safe and sound with me being in the room

Good luck on getting cash back I do hope it gets returned

On our last cruise someone from our FB group found a $100 poker chip for the casino when they were cleaning out their safe on the last morning. It was underneath the little carpet that is in the safe. Who knows how long it had been there.

Almost embarrassed to admit this, but 6 1/2 years ago, I got off the Legend in Tampa and left my wallet and iPod touch in the safe. After making calls into CCL..I was finally transferred to someone that could try and help me. I got a call back shortly after saying they had my wallet, but no iPod :( I drove back to port and was able to get my wallet at least. Still a bit steamed till this day that (presumably our cabin steward) turned in the wallet and not the iPod.

Needless to say, lesson learned and safe is now cleaned out the last night before bed.

No, but I read a great tip once on how to keep from forgetting anything in your safe, Put one shoe in the safe and put your belongings--passport, money, cell phone, etc.--in the shoe. You won't get off the ship wearing only one shoe so you will have to open the safe and get your stuff before you disembark.

Awesome idea!!!

I'm always paranoid about leaving something in the safe. Thanks for the tip.

This has always been my strategy as well. :D

I'm sorry, it is awful when u lose something bc ppl aren't always honest. I've found wallets before once with guys full paycheck in it ..he was so thrilled to get it back with all the money.

You're right - cabin stewards cannot open safes. I said Head of Housekeeping. My RS had to call and she came down with a master card type thing in a metal box. I actually had to do this twice. Once at the time I previously stated, and once when my magnetic gift card I used to lock it died and I couldn't get my safe open. 2 different cruises. I had to be present for them to open it. It is not Security, it is Head of Housekeeping.

As I said for my situation, it was someone from security who came to open the safe.

it's a good idea, but my size 15 shoe will not fit in any safe on board a ship.

At first I thought it would be Security as well but when I asked my RS, he said no Head of Housekeeping does that. Both times were on the Glory. Although I know Security can get in them as well because when people aren't back in time from port, they have them along with another Officer go into the safe to retrieve the contents and leave them with the port people.

Maybe HoH was too busy to get to you in a timely fashion on turn around day. I know it took a long time and multiple calls for me. The other time when my card died, she came fairly quickly.

I actually left my wallet and my car keys in a chair in my room and did not realize it until I was at my vehicle. I was not allowed to reboard the ship after clearing customs, but a Carnival employee radioed the ship and they brought my wallet and my keys to me. It took a little time to get it to me, but I was extremely grateful to Carnival for their help.

Wouldn't work for me. My wife left one shoe aboard once :) I always check every drawer and cupboard one last time before we leave the room now.

  • 4 months later...

Update... I'm very pleased to say it took quite some time (over 3 months), but the money were returned via check for the full amount of cash that was in the safe. They also mailed the card back (separately) and about a month before I got the cash.

Always good to hear of honesty. Taking so long is the pits though.

I found an I Pad in the safe during my safe sweep. I used that safe a lot the whole week and never saw it. It was very hidden under the rug mat thing.

I turned it into my cabin steward as we were leaving and came straight here to PSA it in case a CC member knew who may have lost it.

I then, by suggestion here, went to the roll call for that cruise and posted it. I never heard anything and I hope the rightful owner got it back.

You're most welcome to all who thanked me for updating.

I hope this thread may provide some positive expectations in the future for someone else that leaves something behind. Or to young adults to listen to their parents lol ;p
