What are these "coupon" books I'm hearing about?

The coupons used to be left in your stateroom when you boarded to give Captain's Club benefits - laundry, wi-fi, gelato etc.

On our last cruise in December on Constellation there were no coupons. You just used your sea pass card or noted Captain's Club offer on your laundry list. You still get the benefits.

The Captains Club coupons, when they had them, were a sheet of perforated coupons.

There is also a coupon booklet which some travel agents give out. They are mostly BOGO or discount with purchase. Not all travel agents get them for their clients.

There have been reports (on cc) that there is actually some kind of "coupon booklet" that is not the same as the elite coupon sheets.

I haven't personally seen one.

I had one of these coupon booklets from a TA once (many years ago). Personally I found it worthless - don't think I used a single one. Of course we all have different interests and buy different things, so for some there may be value if you get one.

I have never seen a coupon book on Celebrity (we're Elite) ... only coupons for the complimentary drinks. Everything else is loaded onto your keycard, or you are given instructions in the welcome letter you get in your cabin ... for casino match play or free play, you have to go see the casino cashier, for laundry you have to write "Loyalty" on the laundry form ...

There is and I had to call my TA twice (because it was promised by them) to tell her I had't received mine prior to setting sail. I finally did. If I recall correctly it had some match plays, a couple little freebies and additional % off on photos.

There are different kinds of coupon books in addition to the Captain's Club coupons and the coupons from travel agents.

Free coupon books distributed at some ports contain coupons for discounts or freebies from various merchants along your route, to entice you into their stores

(much like the free charms given out at the jewelry stores).

These are very common on Alaska cruises. The coupons in the free coupon books are primarily for very inexpensive souvenir type items.

Then there are also coupon books for sale offering discounts for restaurants, lodging, excursions and admission to other attractions at various locations along the way.

Those have many BOGO coupons of greater value than what you get in the free coupon books.

Those coupon books can often pay for themselves even if you use only a few of the coupons.

But you need to check them out carefully before purchasing because some of the coupons have restrictions on them that can make them unusable for many people.

  • 1 month later...

We are promised paper coupon books worth $300 per stateroom by our TA for our August Equinox cruise. First we were told we'd receive by mail, then that we'd receive once onboard. So we'll see! I have low expectations. If someone has actually seen the books, please do post about them. I'd hate to book and pay for a photo package, etc and find a coupon later.
