Cruisin'Christine Posted March 16, 2017 #1 Share Posted March 16, 2017 My husband, father, and I will be in Vigo, Spain for a day in May on our transatlantic cruise. We have never been to Vigo before and are interested in a private tour that will customize something for us. Has anyone got any ideas? Thanks! kezrarayne Posted March 23, 2017 #2 Share Posted March 23, 2017 Following. I'm in pretty much the exact same situation with my husband and inlaws for the carnival TA in may. Sent from my iPhone using Forums
campolady Posted March 23, 2017 #3 Share Posted March 23, 2017 We loved Vigo when we docked there last Sumer and one of the most interesting tours we have done in any port - and definitely the best value - was there with http://tours4cruisers.com/en/vigo-tour/ Ours was not a private tour but they may well be able to create one for you if you contact them. They are a fairly new company staffed with really enthusiastic young guides (many of whom wear local costume) and we will be using their services again when we return to Vigo on our cruise in May. For anyone not wanting a private tour the 2.5 hour trip (we were actually on for the best part of 3 hours) is unbeatable value and cost less than half the price of the similar ships excursion. Rare Turtles06 Posted April 10, 2017 #5 Share Posted April 10, 2017 We have been to Vigo. It's not all that interesting. I would strongly suggest a tour to Santiago de Compostela if you have not been there before. It's a UNESCO World Heritage site. The Cathedral is the destination for zillions of pilgrims who arrive by foot, bike, etc. along the Camino de Santiago. Interesting town as well. No need to be Catholic, or religious, to appreciate the architecture and history. (Happy bike pilgrims; photo by turtles06)
campolady Posted April 11, 2017 #6 Share Posted April 11, 2017 We have been to Vigo. It's not all that interesting. Sorry - I disagree. It is a fascinating taste of real Northern Spanish life and a nice change from touring cathedrals and museums. Also a great place for lovers of seafood - especially Oysters. MacMaghnusa Posted May 15, 2017 #7 Share Posted May 15, 2017 You might like to take yourselves to Pontevedra, 15 mins from Vigo Urzaiz train station then a 5€ taxi ride into town, Ayuntamiento or Plaza de España. Get a map from the tourist office there and explore. You don't need a guide. The town has the most beautiful old quarter in Galicia after Santiago de Compostela. It also has really good bars and restaurants where you can taste the excellent local wine Albariño and seafood. The fish market also in the old quarter is also worth a visit. My favourite eateries are Bagos in Calle Michelena and any of those that line the lovely Eirado da Leña, one of the most picturesque squares in the whole of Spain. The town also boasts one of the best provincial museums in the country. So many reasons to visit Pontevedra actually.

cellfree Posted February 18, 2018 #10 Share Posted February 18, 2018 Campolady, did you pre-book your tour of Vigo with "tours4cruisers" or did you simply find them at the port?
eadien7 Posted March 3, 2018 #11 Share Posted March 3, 2018 We booked a walking Tapas tour through EATour Specialist which was one of the highlights of our trip. Sean is a Canadian who married a local. Hooked us up with wonderful food and wine.
