JanetAlice Posted March 18, 2017 #1 Share Posted March 18, 2017 We are looking to do a guided hike on Matanuska Glacier. There are a couple of companies to choose from and I was looking for personal experiences from people on this board. We are in are early 60s and relatively active. We hiked down into Bryce Canyon last year but don't think I could handle a ice climb.
Glaciers Posted March 18, 2017 #2 Share Posted March 18, 2017 There are 3 companies that do treks on Matanuska. Matanuska Glacier Adventures, Nova and Mica. We’ve been out with Mica and found them to be very good. We’ve been going up to the glacier at least once each year for the past 10. Just an amazing experience and one of the most easily accessible glaciers in Alaska. From the parking lot you’re on the glacier in 10-15 minutes. It’s really not that strenuous and the guides go fairly slow as most are walking with crampons for the first time which can be a bit awkward at first. Budget Queen Posted March 18, 2017 #3 Share Posted March 18, 2017 I have gone with both Nova and MICA multiple times. Excellent guided tours. Last year, a separate access admission fee is also part of your costs. Just added information.
