I am curious, since you can now (on some ships) use OBC before sailing to purchase items, has anyone tried applying visa points for OBC to pre buy items? OR can you only use Royal given OBC?

Visa points OBC can be used pre-cruise.

Bob, I have points that expire in april, if i book a cruise for next year and use my points, THEN decide later that I want another ship or date will I lose my points???? Also, if I book an oceanview for example and later want to move up to a balcony and pay the difference will I lose my points? Last week you said something about you losing your points, etc, can you help, now i'm getting paranoid b/c I have 225,000 points that I don't know what to do with - I know they all don't expire :)

If you redeem the points for OBC, then you will only lose your points if you cancel the booking. If you keep the booking and just change the ship and/or sail date, you will keep the OBC from points.

 

If you are redeeming for "free", "upgrade", "companion", or discount, all bets are off and I don't know what they would do.

 

By the way, you can now use the B of A website to see the expiration dates of all your points.

I wish I had thought about using my visa points before booking an excursion earlier today, since I still had a remaining balance not covered by OBC. Oh well, plenty of time to spend it still, lol! Anyone know how soon after transferring visa points that they are available for usage?

Depends on the cruise date, they apply the points in order of sailing. If you are sailing in a month or two, they should apply the points in a few days.

It seems to have spread to all or almost all ships. :)

Supposed to be available for all ships as of March 20th, for cruises on or after April 1.
