ace123 Posted March 28, 2017 #1 Share Posted March 28, 2017 My cruise will stop at the above ports in August 5-10. It's a group of 4. 1. Is there any excursion that will bring us to the glacier? Would you know from which port? 2. We are taking a cruise, isn't taking a fjord excursion to see the fjord a duplicate experience of the sail in and sail out of the cruise ship? 3. we booked the Flam train but quite confused as to what else to do. 4. If we go on a RIB, which port will have the best scenery? 5. If we rent a car, which port is the most convenient to rent and fully utilize the car for 6-8 hours? Any recommendation is welcome. LondonTowner Posted March 30, 2017 #2 Share Posted March 30, 2017 If you Google each port's. Tourist board website you will find lots of information as to what to do in each port, or look on Tripadvisor.
mhb1757 Posted March 30, 2017 #3 Share Posted March 30, 2017 Geiranger has some nice bus tours up into the mountains with great views of the fjords. Flam railway is great and you have that booked. Try looking on visitnorway.no. Search for your ports and there will be tons of options.
ace123 Posted April 5, 2017 Author #4 Share Posted April 5, 2017 Hi LondonTowner and mhb1757, Thanks a lot for the reply with useful info. I did look up the ports' websites and came up with the above questions. Hopefully someone can shed some light on questions #1, #2, #4 and #5. TriMomma Posted April 16, 2017 #6 Share Posted April 16, 2017 We toured Norway last summer (not on a cruise). We used the Norway in a Nutshell itinerary from Bergen to Oslo, although did it on our own with an overnight in Flam. Highlights were: - the scenic bus from Voss to Gudvangen - the sail out of Gudvangen on the Nærøyfjord - Flam railroad So to answer your questions (2) The Nærøyfjord is amazing and might be different from your cruise experience. Gudvangen is a great place to explore by RIB or kayak. (3) We hiked from Flam. Loads of options and had amazing views of the fjord from above. Gives you a different perspective than from the water.
