Host Hattie Posted March 29, 2017 #26 Share Posted March 29, 2017 Thanks for all the tips guys... and the entertainment! I think we will be there nice and early on the first day! Good luck and enjoy it. My husband did the tour on QE, it's not quite as popular on the smaller ships and it is advertised in the Daily Programmes. He enjoyed it very much. Thanks Hattie, Thought I had remembered it advertised in The Daily Programme at some stage, Obviously must have been on the QE and QV also not being informed you would be on it at the time, made me think that a lottery was held with names in a hat sort of thing and I just thought I was lucky. Pushka Posted March 29, 2017 #28 Share Posted March 29, 2017 Nailed it pepperrn. I just did not experience any feeling of class or snobbery. In fact in the gym sessions I got on very well with a lady in PG doing the WC. A delightful person. We just shared an enjoyment of the gym class. She had certainly paid a damn sight more than I had so good luck to her. I love Britannia restaurant and all it offers. I'm happy.
gfs1ram Posted March 29, 2017 #29 Share Posted March 29, 2017 We were also on the QM2 Sydney to Hong Kong 16 day sector of the World Cruise. We had a 'sheltered balcony' on deck 5, a great location, and throughly enjoyed the Cruise. Indeed it was the best we have had on the QM2, for some reason we felt much more comfortable on the ship than we have on previous QM2 trips. Refit improvements - maybe, but the whole experience was most enjoyable. We did not come across any 'class distinction' whatsoever. We were also fortunate enough to do the 'Behind the Scenes Tour'. The cost is $120 (paid for by our dear daughters as a Christmas present by giving us extra on board spend). Not cheap, but in our opinion well worth it. You need to fill an application form in at the Tour Desk. We did this about 9.30am on the sea day following boarding. Maybe because it was a sector of the World Cruise but there did not seem any 'panic' for the places and about a week later we received our confirmation letter and instructions. The Tour lasts over 3 hours and even my wife found it to be most fascinating and enjoyable.I think she thought she maybe the only woman and that it maybe rather boring - wrong on both counts. You are taken all over the ship, max 16 in the group, although we actually had two no shows, escorted by two Security Officers, its another world. I will not say much more, not wishing to spoil the enjoyment, other than Capt Wells was most accommodating and jovial and you actually go on to the Bridge, not just in the observation room. An afternoon buffet is also provided and at the end you are give a few 'goodies' to remember the occasion - yes we have the badge !! We enjoyed it, it added to our Cruise, and if 'Grill' people were in the Group it was certainly not a case of 'us and them'. We would recommend it to anyone. Maybe people confuse 'class distinction' with something else. And maybe nothing to do with money but rather a reaction to behaviour and other such things. Glad you experienced no issues getting on the Tour. It certainly is memorable.

That's where I'll be when I board in Singapore in a bit over a week. :) Last time I had one on 6 so looking forward to this cabin too.
orvil Posted April 3, 2017 #32 Share Posted April 3, 2017 We travel in QG. Last crossing on the QV, we did the ship's tour. If in the Grills, you sign up with the concierge. It was very casual. I stopped in after lunch the first afternoon and made inquiries. They started a list. I got confirmation a few days later. Unfortunately for us, a fire had broken out in the engine control room just prior to the tour. We were unable to visit that area. They were still cleaning up. So, they compensated with a tour of the print shop. How long can a copy machine hold your attention? In our case it was about a half an hour. The most interesting area was forward where the anchors and large lines are stowed. We had a really cute officer giving the tour in that area. If I were a few years younger:) You get a lapel pin and a picture taken with the Captain. The Bridge is very interesting. They give you a little reception with canapés. (As if we really needed any more food.) I'm glad we did it. I would love to go on the QM2 tour sometime. There was no class distinction. We all sat cross legged on the carpet in one of the lobbies while waiting to start. Ladies wear pants and flat shoes.
