Dolphins, flying fish or other sightings

Saw a sea turtle from the ship once... just after sail away. I was on the deck above the bridge on the port side "wing" leaving Port Canaveral. About 30 yards in front of the ship, you could see the turtle's head out of the water and see the dark outline of the body right at the surface. Suddenly, the turtle saw the ship coming, and dove going away from the side of the ship.

Almost always see flying fish.

I am an avid deep sea fisherman (or at least i pretend to be) and a few cruises ago we were heading out of Galveston on the second day of the cruise, probably close to 150NM off shore. There were a few big weed patches / lines which usually make for prime fishing. I was commenting on wishing i was out here fishing when i saw a Blue Marlin free jumping, chasing bait down the side of the weed patch! Was really beautiful to see. I think he made at least 3 big jumps.

We have seen dolphins on three occasions, turtle on two occasions. In Port Canaveral, there were hundreds of Jelly fish one time. Also saw a barracuda at Castaway Cay once. We have never seen flying fish, I must sleep too late...LOL

So cool! I just love the flying fish.

This is our first spring cruise, and I have been wondering if we will see anything different. We usually sail in the dead of summer.

Sixteen cruises and I've only seen dolphins from the ship once...and that was on the only cruise we've taken out of Long Beach. We saw a few of them swimming alongside the ship on one of our first sea days headed down to Mexico. The of the rest of our cruises have all been out of Miami/Ft. Lauderdale or Port Canaveral and never have seen any from the ship.

We did spot a whole bunch of dolphins one evening in Miami walking from Bayside back to the Intercontinental. It was dark and at first we couldn't tell what the commotion was we kept seeing and hearing in the water. But we finally realized it was 5-6 dolphins who seemed to just be playing and frolicking around in the bay. It was pretty cool to watch. They put on quite a show for 5-10 minutes.

We always see a bunch of flying fish when we are sitting on our balcony!

Sail primarily the West Coast. Seen whales, pods of dolphins, rays and sea lions from the ship.

Coolest thing we've ever seen was at Catalina on a cold February morning. Couldn't figure out what these round patches of black sticks that were sticking out of the Channel. First we thought they were part of the kelp beds. Realized the sticks were sea lion fins. Sticking out of the water, facing the sun. They were trying to get warm. That was one of the few tender crossings where we got escorted in by a bunch of sea lions and dolphins.

Have seen scores of Flying Fish from the balcony, Port or River Dolphins in the port at Galveston and Cozumel. Sea Turtles in Cozumel and plenty of Turtles while tied to the dock in St. Thomas after the Liberty fire, we were fortunate that our balcony faced the water. Also some of the largest Tarpon I've ever seen would swim along the Liberty at night. Three Oceanic Dolphins one time out on the open water on last sea day heading back to Galveston. Sand Shark cruising around the pier in Key West as well. Heading to Alaska on the legend in a few weeks, can't wait to see the wildlife up there, Seattle to Glacier Bay!

Thank-you!! We will be in St Thomas - will look for the sea turtles. I am always on the lookout for dolphins :) I actually have binoculars sitting next to my suitcase. Seem to always think about them too late. If they don't already sell them, Carnival should sell them in the Fun Shops on board :)
