Manhattan Room (dining room on Epic) queries about music and dancing

Hi, trying to figure out dinner reservations for cruise on Epic (June 18 - 25) and hoping cruisers who have been on the Epic and dined at the Manhattan Room can answer some questions about "...The Manhattan Room is our version of a private New York City supper club. Guests can dance in style while..." My girlfriend like the idea of having dinner and dancing between courses, but wonder if going more than once or twice is worth it.

Is it live music or recorded? Do people actually dance? How was the volume (distract from table conversation)? Did you enjoy the Manhattan Room?

TIA!

Cheers!

Roehl

There's probably a couple of nights where the Burn the Floor cast do a ten minute set, usually at 6.30pm. You will need to book a table near the stage for say 6pm if you want a good view. Book as soon as you board if you can. That is worth going to.

Other nights (and on BTF nights I think) there is a small band (like a four piece) who play a couple of one hour sets (slow stuff). Seemed to be mainly a few old folk shuffling round the dancefloor. Volume not that loud. If you're going to an MDR for dinner, may as well go to that one, you never know when the urge takes you.

There is a live band early in the evening. There are a few folks who dance. There is no reason not to. The dining room is very large, so once you are a few rows of tables back, you won't really hear the band.

If I had a girlfriend I would take her to the Manhattan Room every night! After dinner it turns into a dance club.

Sounds great. So if I make reservations for the last dinner time, then we would have a table for the dance club? Or do they remove the tables?

I've only been on the Getaway (3X) and Escape (2X) and eat exclusively in the Manhattan and it does not convert.to a dance club on those ships. Perhaps the Epic does it differently but dinner is served until 10:30 and they have to clean and vacuum.

No, the dance floor is huge and the tables stay. You don't need a reservation for the Manhattan Room, but it's not a bad idea during peak times. If you're eating late it shouldn't be an issue at all. The key, though, is getting a table up by the band.

Well...I have a feeling you must eat dinner early and go to bed early because there is a band and dancing after dinner.

Thanks for the advice. Thinking thermal spa after a day in port, then late dinner and dancing. I have made the reservations for 8:30 but do you know how I can request getting a table by band? Should I go directly to Manhattan Room on embarkation or do you think it will it be easy to get every night? Probably over planning this, but literally trying to sweep my lady off her feet.

Ask the hostess when you arrive because it will depend on availability.

If you are going to the Manhattan for the music and dancing, in my opinion, forget it. I recently took a 3 day cruise and dined in the Manhattan all 3 nights and was looking forward to the "New York City style dinner club". Ha.......

It was a 3 piece combo that was impossible to hear due to the loud, obnoxious talking in the dinning room. The talking was bad enough when the band wasn't playing, but when they did start, the talking got even louder to the point it was difficult to carry on a decent conversation with my wife without repeating a lot of what was said - muchless hear any music. We did not witness anyone dance during our dinner time the entire three days.

Personally, I am not a fan of NCL's freestyle concept, especially when you have to have reservations for everything. It's ridiculous to me to put 4,000+ passengers on a ship and have a comedy show play once in a room with very limited seating capacity. Nevertheless, I understand the appeal of the freestyle concept if that fits you. I'm certainly not knocking those who cruise NCL or NCL and this concept. I'm just saying it's not my style and to each their own. Just giving you my opinion, which is not gospel for anyone other than myself.

I did read quite a bit on these boards about EPIC prior to sailing and know there are varying opinions on this ship. I found it to about equally split of those who like this ship and those who don't. Do your research. There are things you can make reservations prior to boarding and others you can't make until you get on board. Even knowing that, I was only able to book one show - and that was prior to the cruise. By the time I got on board and proceeded to book other things, they were all already sold out.

Good luck and I hope you have a great cruise.

I've eaten in Manhattan Room/Tropicana Room probably 10 times, and there have always been lots of people dancing, regardless of the music style playing. I have never NOT seen someone dancing in there.

Hoping your version (and many of the others who have answered) is the experience we have. Thank you for sharing.

Thanks! Looking forward to spending some quality time with my lady and a supper club experience should help with relaxing from what has been a rough year.

Cheers!

No. We generally eat dinner around 7:30 - 8PM and go to the late 10PM shows that get out around 11:30 then to the Casino or the Atrium, the late comedy shows or the 80's or Glow Party. I never thought to to go back to the dining room for dancing and music and I don't see that option in any of my saved Freestyle Dailies.

Just a quick follow up note: We had the early dining slot (5:30PM) and that may have had something to do with no one dancing. Others may have a different experience depending on what time slot they eat.

Again, my experience was not a good one and if dancing and music are the reasons you are booking the Manhattan, then I certainly hope your experience is different and you get that "dinner club" experience desired.

As you can see there have been a variety of experiences with dancing/not dancing in Manhattan, I saw people dancing on most nights but I guess its dependant on the mix of passengers on the ship and time of dining.

For info the Burn the Floor cast members also do basic dance lessons. As previously mentioned if you want to see their set in Manhattan you really have to sit near the dance floor or you will not see much
