MaisonRose Posted April 11, 2017 #1 Share Posted April 11, 2017 Yes, I am a slow learner, the mind boggles. If this is a need to know topic for you, note my discovery on my last Transatlantic. Unless you use the internet on board, of course. I like to be wi fi free on a ship, so here is the surprise FITBIT DOES NOT UPDATE THE CHANGE OF TIME ZONES AS YOU CROSS THE BIG OCEANS. Take a watch if you want to know what time it is! Susan
Rare Essiesmom Posted April 12, 2017 #2 Share Posted April 12, 2017 Well, that depends. I synched my fitbit with my cellphone, which did update time, so the fitbit did too. EM

Take a watch if you want to know what time it is! Susan Sync Fitbit to cell phone. Turn on cell phone (briefly if you so desire) at each port -long enough to recognize local carrier. As long as your phone's time zone setting is set to "auto," it will change time zones and pass that info to Fitbit during sync. Rare Keith1010 Posted April 12, 2017 #4 Share Posted April 12, 2017 Yes, we have fitbit blaze and that is what I did. I synced it to my iPhone. Wise advice to be sure your fitbit app is set to auto for time zone changes. Mine didn't automatically default to that nor did my wife's in our app settings but as soon as I realized that I corrected them. Keith
fishywood Posted April 12, 2017 #5 Share Posted April 12, 2017 I like to be wi fi free on a ship, so here is the surprise FITBIT DOES NOT UPDATE THE CHANGE OF TIME ZONES AS YOU CROSS THE BIG OCEANS. Take a watch if you want to know what time it is! OK let me be sure I understand this: If one chooses to go "wi-fi (sic) free" (which I interpret to be used here as an inexact synonym for internet free) then one's data-streaming dependent device will not automatically update its location, and as a consequence will not update local time  ...the solution for which is to actively link said device to another device that (contrary to stated intent) is data enabled--and potentially more costly to use at sea than the first device :confused: But in all seriousness: while not a Fitbit user, on my last two cruises I have carted my phone around the ship thanks to the "free shipboard app" and its minimal information provided. But the above posts have convinced me to return to sanity and resume locking it in the safe for the duration. (So never let it be said that such an award-winning Captain Obvious post does not still have some sort of usefulness around here. Oh, and while I rarely wear a watch at home I always do when travelling, TYVM )
flamomo Posted April 12, 2017 #6 Share Posted April 12, 2017 My activity tracker stored the data from my daily walks throughout my cruise, and when I got home I synced it to my phone, and all the data from those 17 days was downloaded into the app. Therefore I felt it was a non-issue requiring me to waste internet minutes to have my device connected. Besides, I wore my device on one arm and my watch on the other.
MaisonRose Posted April 14, 2017 Author #7 Share Posted April 14, 2017 Thanks for the comments and suggestions. I wouldn't dare turn on my iPhone when it is dépendant on ship fees, but surely do hug the nearest internet post at port calls for updating. Problem was/is those days at sea, sometimes as many as eight. Anyway, I m wearing an old fashioned wind up watch. I've never had trouble with the Fitbit steps measure..just the time of day.
