CastMember 02 Posted April 27, 2017 #1 Share Posted April 27, 2017 We are on the 10 night Alaska from SF Will there be a puppy photo opp in the Piazza? If so anyone know what port? Also, we are cruising Tracy Arm, not Glacier Bay if that helps :) TIA
CharlesKru Posted April 27, 2017 #2 Share Posted April 27, 2017 We were told by our Princess Vacation Planner that they would come on board in Skagway. She did not know how long they would stay onboard.. I was hoping to get more info when the season actually starts.
dbeckett Posted April 27, 2017 #3 Share Posted April 27, 2017 You line up to get a photo with a puppy. There are usually 3 of them and the ones not being photoed are in a small dog run where they tend to sleep after the photo op.
AF-1 Posted April 27, 2017 #4 Share Posted April 27, 2017 are they on all Princess ships in Alaska?
Astro Flyer Posted April 27, 2017 #5 Share Posted April 27, 2017 Princess states it's in Skagway: http://www.princess.com/learn/cruise-destinations/alaska-cruises/onboard-experience/ PUPPIES IN THE PIAZZA Some of Skagway’s newest sled dogs come aboard! Snap a picture with the puppies and meet their dog handlers who will be training them for a life of dog mushing.
Coveguy4 Posted April 27, 2017 #6 Share Posted April 27, 2017 This was very popular last May on the Ruby, It did make me miss my 4 at home.......
Rare donswife Posted April 28, 2017 #7 Share Posted April 28, 2017 If you want to have more time to play with sled dog puppies, take an excursion from Skagway that stops at Caribou Crossing Trading post in Carcross. There is a penned area with puppies and you can spend as long as you like (but don't miss your bus!) playing with them. It was also amazing to see the sled dogs prepare to go for a run, they got soooo excited.

R**T Posted April 28, 2017 #10 Share Posted April 28, 2017 When we were on the Island Princess last May, the puppies came on board in Skagway in the afternoon before departure. It was listed in the Patter so you won't miss it. Ryan Reddington -- just Google him! -- brought "Moose" and "Mink" on board for cuddles. Such sweet mellow dogs! There was a long line for photos and although I NEVER buy photos from Princess, I had to buy one of me holding "Mink." I hope Mr. Reddington got a percentage of all the sales! The funniest thing: One of the puppies did a tinkle -- as puppies do -- and Princess brought in a three man hazmat team to do the cleanup!

It was also amazing to see the sled dogs prepare to go for a run, they got soooo excited. We did a van trip from Skagway to Emerald Lake with a stop at the Trading Post and indeed, my wife and daughter got lots of time with the puppies. The lighting on the photo is bad because they were in an enclosed pen with dark shading covering the top to keep the sun out. There were other baby animals there as well such as goats.
