Giving up Spa room and just buying the pass.

What does a spa pass and balcony get you? My life partner likes to do spa stuff, but from reading this I'm not sure I understand why it would be worth the extra money. She did a mani/pedi (estimated spelling), massage and one other treatment and I think it was under $250 total for all of the stuff. $250 for pampering on every sea day doesn't seem too outrageous to me but we live in Ohio so those treatments would be closer to $150 back home. I'm not sure she'd do anything else other than the hot tub thing (sorry don't know the correct word).

We have considered the spa balcony rooms a few times but always end up just getting the couples pass saving money on the cabin and pre-booking treatments online for the 10/20/30 discounts. We also are not fans of the spa cabin overall ship location.

Cheers and happy cruising.

On the ships with a big Thalasso therapy pool (Breeze, Splendor, etc) I always book a spa cabin.

It is soooo relaxing to just soak in that pool and use the ceramic tile warm benches.... I visit the spa once or twice daily on those ships. So I was very disappointed in the size of the spa on the Vista.

That's why on my Horizon cruises I decided not to get a spa cabin and just visit the salon for a hair appointment.

FYI, friends were sailing 2 weeks ago, decided not to get Spa cabin. Tried for months on line to buy week passes, nada. Had Priority Boarding went to Spa to buy weeks pass for both, nope. Non available.

I'm also wondering what a spa pass includes. I couldn't see it as available on our Dream cruise in October, so couldn't find a description. Thanks

On the cruise ships with the new Cloud 9 spa, access to most areas in the spa is restricted. If you get the spa pass it includes hot saunas, dry saunas, heated marble loungers, steam rooms, and my favorite, the Thelasso therapy pool (not on every ship). The Thelasso therapy pool is a heated bubbly mineral water pool with built in loungers that is heavenly. I love to lay on a lounger with a good strong water jet under it, it does wonders for stiff sore joints or sore feet from all of the walking around. :D If you want to look it up on Carnival or elsewhere online (there's a few good YouTube reviews) it's referred to as the thermal suites. Hope this helps.

Is it worth the money? We've got some casino offers for balconies, not sure if I could upgrade or parlay those into a spa room, I think the old ball and chain and MIL would enjoy it.

We have a spa inside room booked for the 2018 Splendor Panama Cruise. My DH loves the spa area, he even paid the deposit but since we can save 1000.00 if we change to a different cabin and just pay $550.00 for the spa pass I am considering this.

We have stayed in the spa cabins on the Splendor before but it has been awhile. Is there any differences between what we get vs. paying for them??

Anybody pro or cons.

I noticed you referenced paying $550 for a spa pass. I believe the maximum amount I've ever seen is $249 a week for the couples pass. Unless I am mistaken and you mean you will be paying the cost for the pass for two couples.

Most Panama canal cruises are 14 days, so that would explain the price quoted.

In my opinion for sure! My wife and myself look forward to everything in post number 32 as well as some nice tea and sitting relaxing in the relaxation room. We use the spa 2 times a day most days! It's just very relaxing after a day at port or before dinner. A spa cabin is closer to the spa and a very quiet location on the ship.

On the ships that have the Thelasso therapy pool (Dream class & newer or upgraded ships), I would say it's definitely worth it. Without the Thelasso therapy pool I don't know if I'd pay extra. But having the spa room is nice because you get upgraded toiletries (shampoo, conditioner, shower gel, etc). And your towels (yellow instead of blue), robes and slippers are upgraded and very plush. Plus your room decor is a little fancier. But the best part of getting a spa cabin (other than the spa itself) is the location. It's right by the Lido deck where the food and pools are. Plus since only those 18 and over can use the spa, the spa decks tend to be much quieter. No kids running up and down the hallway at 2 am. :) We spend a little extra and splurge on a spa balcony cabin every cruise now. It's our little treat to ourselves for working so hard all year.

Two reasons for us in Caribbean...

1. We've hit nearly every island over years so we do land or AI if we want to revisit. Most Caribbean ports we just walk around & go to place we really enjoy for a bit.

2. Hubs and I workout daily. So location and access to saunas, thermal loungers, steam rooms, T-pool just keep us on track.
