Rare Ken the cruiser Posted April 29, 2017 #1 Share Posted April 29, 2017 We have recently read on another CC thread that HAL has a policy where they only hire professional lecturers on cruises that are 15 days or longer and from our past experience this has pretty much been the case. However, we're hoping their 14 day Alaska cruises that go to Anchorage, Homer, Kodiak and the other common Alaska ports has at least a naturalist onboard to give lectures about the various wild life and history of the area. For those of you that have cruised to Alaska with HAL in recent years, is this wishful thinking or do they provide a naturalist on all their Alaskan cruises. We've sailed to Alaska with Celebrity before and there was a great naturalist on their 7 day cruise. Hopefully, HAL will too, but we wanted to ask. Old As Dirt Mom Posted April 29, 2017 #2 Share Posted April 29, 2017 In our experience, and we have done these 14-day itineraries three times in the last few years, HAL provides a "Location Guide", in our case it was a very helpful lady named Jeanette, who is an Alaska resident and knowledgeable about Alaskan history, nature, wildlife and native cultures. She gave several talks, and also had a desk in the atrium where she was available to answer questions. She was on the bridge to give commentary about what we were seeing as we went up Tracy Arm. In the past, there have been park rangers and representatives of the Yakutat and Huna Tlingit tribes in Hubbard Glacier and Glacier Bay who board the ship and give talks and presentations throughout the day. LEtue Posted April 29, 2017 #3 Share Posted April 29, 2017 This sounds similar to my experience on Princess in Alaska. So I am glad to hear that it will be the same on HAL when I finally get to sail this awesome itinerary in 2018 :D
Krazy Kruizers Posted April 29, 2017 #4 Share Posted April 29, 2017 The first time we did the 14 day cruise all we had were the Park rangers. But the following year we did have a speaker who gave a few lectures as well as the Park rangers.
