Does Anyone Else Not Stress Over Carnival's New Changes ?

Recommended Posts

Just came off Freedom yesterday. We had tablecloths every night except one. We had tablecloths last cruise also. When did they go away?

I'm not sure, but I may be the only one not stressing-out over some of the recent changes.

Some of the changes I'm not too crazy about but I'm just going to go with the flow.

Just curious if there are any other cruisers that may feel the same way?

I'm not thrilled about some of Carnival's cost-cutting changes. But no matter what Carnival changes, we all continue to have the option to choose the cruise line we enjoy most. That doesn't equate to anything to stress about. If Carnival's changes don't meet my needs, I've already decided to try Celebrity solely because their casinos are smoke-free.

Sitting here reminiscing about my first Carnival cruise- 1990 on the Carnivale... the ship was old, the bathroom was horrible, the water pressure from the shower was enough to blow you out of the bathroom... the cost for 3 of us was almost the same for our last 2 cruises... sure, soft drinks were included, but the food choices were much more limited- MDR and Lido buffet- that was it. You had 2 options for MDR- early or late... if you were in between, Lido was your only choice.

We paid for gratuities without knowing what they were really for- cruise lines didn't make the breakdown known as much as they do today. The 'Fun Shops' were almost non-existent. The shows were hokey and not particularly entertaining. The ship wobbled in high seas a lot more than its bigger, newer sister ships do.

Smoking was allowed just about everywhere, and our cabin stunk like cigarettes all week long. Because of the cost, we couldn't even think about a balcony! I'm not sure if we were just special but when we asked for a table on our own in the dining room, we were told that only larger tables were available.

So all in all, when I think about the changes that have happened to Carnival, I'm pretty pleased with how things are shaping up. Yes, some things have been reduced or taken away but a lot more has been added, across all the cruiselines... so I tend to take the changes in stride, remembering what it was like 'in the good old days'.
