We were not able to get into the Casino in Monte Carlo because we left our passports on the ship. We were not advised that we would need our passports. We really didn't want to gamble, just buy some chips to bring home.

HUZZAH!! The package arrived at our hotel this afternoon - we'll be able to make our flight tomorrow! I am so glad - Adios Barcelona!

It does apply to the Mediterranean. I always leave passports in the cabin safe or hotel safe. That is recommended by the US State Department along with carrying a copy. Also several Med ports have pickpockets. On one of my Med cruises the ship collected out passports when we checked in.

For the record, on this itinerary we were required to carry the Passports ashore and present them at all the Italian ports - not sure why. Our cruise would have been a real bust if the Italian authorities in LaSpezia hadn't given us permission papers for Rome and Naples.

We weren't required to take passports ashore last October on Harmony. We didn't either!

Just a FYI- one must present their passport at the casino in Monte Carlo if one wants to gamble.. We always take our passports off in Europe never in Caribbean.
