steverhodes Posted May 29, 2017 #1 Share Posted May 29, 2017 While we had a great time last year in Russia, we did find many challenges. My wife has mobility issues and, more than any country we've been to, access to elevators was frequently a problem. Some places didn't have elevators while others had them in out of the way locations which cause lots of extra walking to find them. As just two examples of places we visited on our on the extensions, the impressionist building of the wonderful Pushkin Museum in Moscow had no elevators, so you had to climb these stairs. And in the recently renovated building in The Hermitage where the impressionists and other are housed, they had a great elevator but it didn't go to the ground level. You had to climb these stairs first to reach the evevator, which made no sense whatsoever. Sent from my iPad using Forums
E316 Posted May 29, 2017 #2 Share Posted May 29, 2017 Sorry to hear about the stairs. I understand because I do not to stairs. I hope you enjoyed your trip. My husband and I are doing Paris and Normandy and I hope to avoid too many stairs. Thank you for sharing the information about Russia. LondonTowner Posted May 29, 2017 #4 Share Posted May 29, 2017 Sorry to hear you had a problem. I have limited mobility, but when we went to SPB didn't find it a problem, but our Alla Tours guide was very helpful. e316 France is very disabled friendly, particularly Normandy and all the D Day museums. bakersdozen12 Posted May 29, 2017 #5 Share Posted May 29, 2017 Did the cruise line, or excursion company you booked with, not warn you in the description of the excursions that they weren't suitable for mobility-challenged individuals? Sent from my iPhone using Forums I suppose it's about not wanting to limit yourself, and still have a nice experience.

Sent from my iPhone using Forums The 2 examples were stuff we did on our own. But being warned is only partially helpful. You still have to walk a long way to the elevators if they have them. I remember on one museum (Fabrege Eggs), Viking had to call ahead and make a reservation for the one elevator and had to specify exactly how many guests would be using it and at what time.
