We stayed at the Sheraton in Vina del Mar pre-cruise. Very nice. We used The German Pirate, Michael Arnold for a tour of the wine country and other sites. He was good. We did not go into the Andes or do museum sites in Santiago.

People is Santiago start their Holidays early as it is the start of the summer break.

Most people in the city tend to go to the beach, so hotels in that area will be booked.

Also you might find sites in the city closed. Major chain hotel will be open but with a

small amount of staff. Suggest you try some of the hotel booking sites to see what

is available. That will give you price range also. You will have to arrange a car service..

The metro and bus are easy to use. Taxis were reasonable, but book your taxi to the airport in advance. Sometimes there is a surcharge as the toll way charges more.

We stayed at LeReve boutique hotel last year over Christmas after a cruise. It was very nice and a good location. Great breakfast in AM and happy hour in the PM. To our surprise we met several others from our cruise there. They arranged tours for us if you want them to.
