Special Items to Pack to Make the Week Better

Recommended Posts

My problem was bed to bathroom in the dark and fumbling with the lights outside the bathroom. I have a light that can be turned on but more importantly I can keep on auto. I keep it on a shelf opposite the bed. Light automatically goes on with movement which is why I don't keep it on the table top. There if I turn over in bed, it goes on. It's a soft light but gets me to the bathroom as the room is the dark problem part.

Does anyone bring one of those small flashlights? I will be staying with 2 other women and I know at least one of us will be making middle of the night trips to the bathroom. Seems like a little but bright flashlight would really keep some toes safe.

Yes, I used to bring a flashlight for emergencies and for reading. Now I have a paperwhite Kindle for reading and I use my cell phone's flashlight app if I need to leave my bed in the dark. I still bring the little flashlight. It's not a bad idea to have a little LED flashlight just in case I want to turn my cell phone off completely.

Gee if I had to pick just one thing it would be the two bottles of wine for Sail Away. Other than that my list of must haves are:

Power Strip

Diet Pepsi (I'm a pepsiholic, coke just doesn't cut it)

Pop up Laundry Basket

Beach Bag

Coupon Organizer to separate out my tip money by bill so I can grab the right amount quickly without fumbling around.

Those are the biggies. I take much more but those are the things that I have used every trip and would have missed if I didn't have them.

This time I also bought water in advance and had it delivered to my room. It's cheaper to take your own to the islands then to buy it. We bought 4 cases for the 6 of us and used every bottle. We drank more water because we had it too, which never hurts in the heat.

Someone mentioned cards and games. I always travel with my Scrabble game and a Scrabble dictionary. On at-sea days, I set up my board and wait for someone to come along and express an interest in playing. I've thought about making a little table tent sign to invite people to play.

I love this!

Luggage scale we always bring back more so need to know what the weight is ( before we get to the airport ).

I totally agree, knowing your not going to exceed the weight restriction and have to go through that awkward reshuffle of the suitcases is worth having a scale.

We picked up one for under $7 and it works great!

We bring an assortment of our own tea bags that we enjoy, 3 collapsible multi colored bins (one for each of us) to put assorted items into for our "shelf in the closet (it is easier to pull it out and look thru it to find something quickly), little plastic clothespins (to hang wet bathing suits up on the clothes line in shower), a nightlight so lights do not need to be turned on in middle of night (this depends on the ship and the electric units in or near the bathroom), binoculars (for our balcony and/or on deck), a good book to read!

I really like the idea of the collapsible bins! Easy to pack and it would be great for the stuff on the shelves.

After more than a dozen cruises, here are my thoughts.

Things I used to bring that I don't because of Hub app:

Post it notes to keep up with each other- Hub app has chat feature

Magnet to put fun times on wall-fun times are on Hub app

Magnet to put ships map on wall- interactive ships map on Hub app

Also, smart phones have free flashlight so no need for flashlight

What I always bring and can't live without:

*Pop up hamper to keep the room tidy

*Power strip to charge things (only one outlet in cabin)

*Over the door shoe organizer- great for keeping things handy like sunglasses, lanyards, camera, flip flops, sunscreen, lotion, etc.

*Shower caddy that hangs from shower nozzle- for shower gel, shampoo, conditioner, razor, face scrub, etc. (mine is mesh and lays flat)

*Magnetic hooks- (cabin walls are metal) To hang purse, lanyards, jacket, backpack, etc.

*Collapsible cooler- We order 12 packs of water from Carnival for $4.50 and bring it along with us on beach or excursions.

*Empty duffle bag- for all those tshirts and souvenirs we buy that won't fit into our stuffed suitcases.

*First aid kit- with seasick meds, allergy meds, bandages,etc.

We usually sleep 4 to a cabin (balcony of course :D) hence the need for lots of extra storage and organization. I hope this helps. I love all of the ideas people have.

Soft, cushy toilet paper! Hate that stuff that shreds and pills and leaves debris behind on the behind!

:D

The toilet paper is made that way for a reason.pipes on a ship are delicate and can easily clog if you use " normal " paper. This is a warning and suggestion

Myth. See post #34.

We're actually going on the Sunshine again in August, I'm going to take one for the team and bring some toilet paper with me and see if it gets confiscated like the lady claimed in 2013. Going to look silly carrying it around but I must know if it really can happen. It may have been the people at the port too, that was New Orleans and we're doing NYC this time.

I wouldn't do it myself just to avoid the stares, but please let me know how it turns out!

What I try to bring on every vacation, not just cruises:

* Patience

* Adaptability

* Positivity

* Friendliness

Some people forget theirs at home or have a limited supply to begin with, so I find if I pack plenty of each, then I can spread it around to people I meet, whether they are my fellow travelers/tourists, hospitality professionals, or locals at my destination.

Lol well that's the reason I have never done it in the past! Those people I see doing it look so silly to me, even though I've had better toilet paper in corrections institutions....as a teacher not resident:halo:
