How much snow and ice?

Cruising southbound in mid-August. I am a southern gal and hoping to see at least a few snow capped mountains and some ice in the water. I know there will be ice around the glaciers, but how about other ports on the cruise? Will there be any snow left at all?

Thanks in advance,

Dawn

Snow on the lower peaks around Juneau will probably be gone and the waterfalls on the east side of the channel probably just trickles. But peaks over 7,000 feet or so will still have snow in August. For sure you will see lots of snow covered peaks back away from the foothills - some of those mountains are 15,000 feet or more and fully glaciated and snow covered. That said we were really surprised by how little snow was on Mt. Edgecumbe in Sitka in mid-June. It's relatively low but still would have expected more based on prior visit. Might have been warmer and rained more last Winter.

There is snow on Mt Hood in Oregon year round...just like there is on Mt Rainer, Mt St Helens, Mt Adams, and Mt Baker in Washington year round. The higher peaks in Alaska will most definitely have snow. Snow in any of the ports...Don't count on it during August. We had an extra long and heavy snow fall year last winter in Washington, and if they did in Alaska, the snow might be lower on the peaks than normal, but even so, August is still summer...although Fall is creeping up rapidly.
