ship excursion vs anything else

Just looked at a Port to Port video about Ocho Rios and the presenter was quite adamant that this was definitely the one place you should take the ship excursion in order to make sure you were back in time.

Basically, agree with the above. Much depends on where in Jamaica you'll be docked.

So we are basically 'safe' to do our own thing with the time constraints of the ship boarding time?

We went to Montego Bay on a Carnival cruise two years ago. We went to a resort for the day, it was great, it was really expensive and other than the shuttle ride there we saw none of Jamaica. The ship was held for several hours past the sailing time because there was a fatality car accident and traffic was backed up literally for hours. Jamaica seemed sketchy. This December when we stop for our next cruise at Montego Bay, we will for sure book a cruise sponsored excursion due to what we saw last time. They held the ship for those individuals on the cruise excursion.

Just keep track of time.

 

Porting in Ocho Rios is awesome because you are close to all the "good stuff" from the port. (DRF, Blue Hole, White River, Mystic Mountain - for example)

I also disagree Ocho Rios is the number one port for activities on the island and the ship is much closer to everything
