twoguyscruising Posted November 30, 2005 #1 Share Posted November 30, 2005 I know on Princess and NCL they allow me to bring all the wine I would like on board (of course they charge a corkage fee). Celebrity says no, how about RCCL. Anyone know thier official policy?
Merion_Mom Posted November 30, 2005 #2 Share Posted November 30, 2005 Here's the quote from the documents: What About Alcoholic Beverages? Guests are not allowed to bring alcoholic beverages of any kind onboard for consumption or any other use. Alcoholic beverages that are purchased duty-free from the Shops On Board or at ports of call will be stored by us and delivered to your stateroom on the last day of your voyage. A member of our staff will be at the gangway to assist with the storage of your purchases. What About Wine? Royal Caribbean has a state-of-the-art wine list that beautifully represents "The romance of the seas, the passion of wine and the elegance of Royal Caribbean"; please review our complete list by visiting http://www.royalcaribbean.com. A limited selection is available for preordering; please see page 9 for selections. The list, frankly, sucks. Examples: Kendall Jackson Chardonnay Vintner's Reserve for FORTY FOUR DOLLARS. HA! (that's their "premium" chardonnay) Mumm's Cordon Rouge for SIXTY ONE dollars! Korbel (UGH!) for THIRTY ONE DOLLARS. The docs used to say "no wine, but if you bring it into the dining room, a corkage fee will be charged." That's gone. They seem to be clamping down ON PAPER. I fully intend to sneer at this. I'll let you know how it worked out when I return on January 3rd. Carol

Happy ks Posted November 30, 2005 #6 Share Posted November 30, 2005 We were pleasantly surprised this last weekend on our little Monarch cruise, we brought a bottle to the table, no corkage fee at all. Perhaps it was the fact that we'd bought a few bottles from the list the prior 2 nights. We only brought it because we hadn't opened it in our room and did not want to re-pack it. We took two bottles onto the ship in our roll-aboard, no questions asked.

We took two bottles onto the ship in our roll-aboard, no questions asked. We had the same experience on Voyager - had bought bottles of wine the previous nights in the dining room and had a bottle the last night that we had not yet opened in the cabin so brought it to dinner - no corkage fee was charged (of course, I pried open the tip envelope and stuffed in another $10). Merion_Mom Posted November 30, 2005 #8 Share Posted November 30, 2005 In the past, I've had no trouble bringing stuff on board either. I'm just WONDERING if they are REALLY going to start to clamp down. Also, this past summer on the Enchantment, the head waiter was watching the waiters LIKE A HAWK to be sure that they charged the corkage fee. They all looked very nervous whenever they opened a passenger's own bottle. (previously, I just tipped my waiter and there was no fee - I always said to them, "I would rather that this go to YOU than to RC." Carol

twoguyscruising Posted November 30, 2005 Author #11 Share Posted November 30, 2005 sounds like we can bring alittle wine with us in our bags but on our 12 day cruise to europe (Splendor of the Seas) I think a case might be too much! Not that I am cheap but most the reds I drink are not listed. Needless to say, my booze tap eats up about $50-100 per day OOUCH.. I should drop the habit but its oohhh so good.. KyTraveler Posted November 30, 2005 #12 Share Posted November 30, 2005 The corkage fee, in 2003, was $8/btl. We were not charged for every btl opened, but were charged for some. Caymus Special Select, Corton Charlemange, and Puligny Montrachet can not be found on rccl, so it is nice they turn their head for wine lovers. Merion_Mom Posted November 30, 2005 #14 Share Posted November 30, 2005 This summer (August 2005) it was $12. Hmm. I think we might have found one of Carol's pet peeves.Actually, what REALLY chapped my buns was a year and a half ago..............in Portofino's....................own bottle............charged the corkage fee............CHARGED A FLIPPIN' 15% GRATUITY ON THE CORKAGE FEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ISN'T THE CORKAGE FEE ALREADY A SERVICE FEE??? WHAT'S UP WITH CHARGING A FEE ON A FEE?!?!?!?!?!?!?
critterchick Posted December 1, 2005 #15 Share Posted December 1, 2005 I think the corkage fee was $12 before they took it off their website and cruise documents. The cruise dox used to say that the "no booze on board" rule varied by port, but now that language is gone in favor of the blanket prohibition. We often do winery tours and bring back some of the product. We've never had any trouble carrying it back on board. On the short (3-night) cruises, our Diamond C&A book gave us a coupon for xx% (I can't remember how much) off the second bottle when you order 2. It's still overpriced given the quality (or lack thereof) of the wines offered, but it's something. We order both wines and then they hold the second one for the next night. twoguyscruising Posted December 1, 2005 Author #16 Share Posted December 1, 2005 thats more than the local restaurants charge for it!! We have a jr suite and we will bring our own wine opener (hopefully we will have glasses in the room). I wonder if they would say anything about us bringing on 12 bottles of wine since it is a 12 day cruise?
