Weather cooler in Europe? Packing and planning!

Well its countdown for our cruise leaving Aug 22 and I know it's early but I have been. Monitoring weather in a few cities.. I am hopeful that it won't be hot and humid..we usually travel in June or September to avoid the hot days in Europe.. it seems Europe has been rainy in 60 and 70's...Here's hoping it remains cool. Our last river cruise the second week in September was very cool and I was totally unprepared and had to buy a fleece jacket ...our cruise director told us remember dress like an onion.. (layers).... my pile of clothes is expanding not a good packer:D

Where in Europe will you be traveling to? Or which river. The climate varies widely in Europe. August can be blistering hot!

Rainy, 60 - 70ies.... hmm, not sure which cities you have looked up. But we currently still have a heat wave in Southern Germany. More like upper 80ies (and daily thunderstorms).

We leave on the 22nd and where we are headed, temps are 90+ and have been holding there. We generally avoid summer travel in Europe as well, for this reason.

Parts of Eastern Europe, Italy and Spain are due to go over 100F according to temperature warnings issued today...

Definitely take a raincoat, no matter what the temperature. T-shirt + shirt + sweatshirt + raincoat SHOULD cover 99% of expectations. To be on the safe side I throw in a wool watch-cap and wool gloves - they pack very small but give at least another 10 degrees of warmth.

Oh funny! I meant August. Yes that would be extremely sad. ;)

But we currently still have a heat wave in Southern Germany.

 

Probably those up north, where we are. Nothing higher than mid 70s for weeks, more than twice the usual amount of rain in July and just generally :loudcry: weather. Not hot (60/70s) but unpleasingly humid (97% yesterday morning). After the far too hot May the rest of the summer has been really, really crappy (we are much closer to Amsterdam than Basle though).

Well thanks for weather information. I guess I reshuffle my wardrobe!' My raincoat is a definite and less shorts😀😀will monitor weather the next few weeks..
