It's hurricane season!

Notice how the hurricane winds are in a very small area around the eye? Weather channel said they extend just 25 miles, rest of the area just tropical storm winds.

Flooding will be the major issue forecast for the cruise port, possibly even exacerbated by Galveston's seawall. Up to 2' of rain expected over the next couple of days, yikes!

I have never cruised in hurricane season, more because I live in Ohio and winter is cold, wet, and gross here. A week away in December, January, or February is great. My kids are home-schooled so that opens up a lot of time for us to go away. Next summer I'll be taking my daughter and her friend for 4 days out of Port Canaveral. I'm not to worried about the cruise, it could be an adventure.

Here we go again. According to NOAA, Tropical Storm Irma is making its way west and has a 90% chance of turning into a category 4/5 hurricane in the next day or two. It's about 3,000 miles from Miami, and they're not sure if and when it will make landfall here in the states. Keeping my fingers crossed as I sail on the Magic in two weeks.

Ah, something to keep me nice and worried the next few days. We sail on Victory Sept 11. Looks like Irma may miss the states, but you never know how these things will make their right or left turns. Still, looks like a chance for rocky seas at a minimum. :o

We've cruised 11 times during hurricane season, with another couple coming up this fall. Not worried in the least... if they need to change the itinerary or ports, so be it, and we actually enjoying the rockier seas (no motion sickness for at all, thank goodness!).

Only once in all of those cruises have we had to make a change: October 2014 we were scheduled for a B2B2B that was supposed to be Eastern Caribbean - Western Caribbean - Eastern Caribbean. On the first leg, just after sailaway, the captain informed the ship that due to hurricane Gonzalo gaining strength in the Eastern Caribbean, our ship (the Conquest) was going to change the entire itinerary over to the Western Caribbean instead. We had a fantastic time and we were safe. The sad part was watching the devastation that Gonzalo wreaked upon the islands that we were due to visit that week.

One final thing to note - we ALWAYS get travel insurance that includes trip interruption and cancellation... just in case!!

We were on the Conquest with you. We sat in atrium just listening to all the people arguing about the change in itinerary. We were just happy to be on a cruise ship.
