Hurricane irma....ugh

Why would you send a ship to a damaged area...
There's no reason to believe that they would send a cruise ship to a damaged area. Whenever such things have occurred in the past, they've substituted other ports-of-call or more At Sea days, as they spell out in the contract. They've been dealing with cruises during hurricane season for decades and by now it shouldn't be surprising that they have worked through most if not all of the possibilities.

Supposed sailing 9/9 now sailing 9/12 but no update on cruise docs. I am getting out of Dodge! Will be back just before then. I realize a lot is going on but updated cruise docs is key. We live in sw FL and I still have to work today but after that, no access to my "stuff" for a bit. Does anyone know how long it will be until they update? I mean, the weather/travel advisory still says they will update tomorrow-from Wed. lol And southern Mexico had a major earthquake yesterday.

Doubtful they are letting people fly in, people are having a hard time flying out! Last flight out tomorrow from Miami is 2:00 pm and that flight is going to Houston. Lots of people are stuck!

Indeed, last I knew ALL our airports along the coasts are closing or closed. Living sw FL, we watch all this stuff pretty closely. I feel awful for anyone who got on a plane yesterday thinking they were cruising this weekend. This is going to be losses in the billions for the companies and much worse for those in the path.

Wouldn't the people responsible for updating the cruise docs be in an evacuation area? I have to believe they have backup arrangements, but I would expect the backup arrangements would not be anywhere near as efficient as the primary arrangements. I would hope that they're prioritizing the work needed to ensure the safety of the passengers and the work needed to legally operate the voyages, such as passenger manifests, before fixing anything that they could legitimately fix at the time of embarkation.

Check the airport arrival boards. Our 2:30pm arrival to FLL from Orlando is still not cancelled. I had been waiting on this announcement for my insurance to pay. All flights have to be canceled for a 24 hour period before my insurance would reimburse. From FLL: Due to Hurricane Irma, the airport will close on Saturday, September 9 and Sunday, September 10. The last flight will depart FLL at 7:45 p.m. on Friday, September 8.

I have now been on the phone with Carnival for 2 hours. I opted to take a credit instead of going with the changed plan. It took about 10 tries to get through (busy signal). It only took about 10-15 mins to get someone on the phone and cancel. I was then transferred to a booking agent to book a new cruise. I barely waited 5 mins for that. She got all the info quickly, the problem is she has to get a hold of someone in another department to verify the credit and get it applied. After the 1st hour she offered to call me back when she had the other dept. on the line. She did that but still having to wait because of the other dept.. She is very apologetic and I pretty much expected a wait like this.

P.S. I think I can recite every "Fun Fact"

I also opted for the credit, it took about 5 calls to Carnival and several hours on hold. The customer service representative I spoke to on the 4th try was very courteous and very helpful. She helped me as much as she could and when she couldn't verses putting me on hold she called me back. After an hour and a half I was finally able to switch my Carnival Glory sail date of Sept 9th to January 13! Thank God.... I can breath again and not stress over this cruise:D. Good luck on your future cruise!

P.S. I think I can recite every "Fun Fact too!" LOL......

i want to know what the new pro rate is for our Carnival Conquest cruise. It is supposed to be leaving on the 12th for a 4 day (down from a 7) to Cozumel. That is IF Fort Lauderdale can open the port. I would rather it be canceled. I have no desire to be on such a short cruise. But since this will be the first and last time I book with Carnival I do not want a cruise credit.

Give it time...depending on how bad things are in and around Port Everglades it might still be canceled.

If not you can figure from 7 to 4 days is about a 43% reduction in the length of your original cruise so calculate your refund based on that.

I would suspect so as well, but with a category 4/5 hurricane, that's so devistating, it's hard to tell if the port would hold up. I'd assume they are built to take a decent hurricane, but 4s and 5s, I dunno. I'm flying into FLL on the afternoon of the 16th and staying in Miami. Boarding the Vista on the 17th. Should be interesting, to say the least. I'm not really concerned about where we go, just that all things are operational by then, and of course, FL and the US is spared from the massive devastation that we are seeing coming from St Martin and other islands.

We are in the same boat (no pun intended!). Flying in on the 16th and boarding the Vista on the 17th. We are flying into FLL in the afternoon, but staying in Miami. My husband and I are half expecting it be cancelled/delayed. Praying for that area down there. A cancelled cruise is nothing compared to what these people will have to go through.:(

Wife and I are slated to fly into FLL on the 17th and board the Splendor the 18th. I'm 95% expecting flights and cruise to be cancelled due to damage from winds, and flooding from storm surge. We will see though. 5% of me is holding out hope that we'll be able to pull it of. If there is a reduced passengers that just means less chair hogs and more loungers for me :D

Still here in Cozumel. I got off for a walk earlier this morning and between us and the Vista several were hauling suitcases down the pier.

Most are still in good spirits. Of course are getting the "i should be compensated for this" mode and many people think they should be captain and have different routes they think we should take.

We're in the grateful to be safe camp. They owe us nothing, if anything I'd be happy to pay for the additional food we eat etc.

We are on this cruise, too!!! We will be driving down from Atlanta, so we have a lot of flexibility to react to any changes. We're very fortunate in that regard!!

I was mistaken..now I'm not sure...Victory?. Looked very pretty on television as the pilot boat escorted it out.

Still think its gotta be a somber sail away party out by the pool. People must be looking out at Miami and wondering what it could look like whenever the ship is able to return.

Victory 3 day for today was cancelled. Likely, she was taking out passengers who elected to stay on board from today's disembarking cruise.

So far, I'm still booked for her revised sailing on the 12th. We'll see but not hopeful.

We were scheduled to sail on the Magic 9/9. We don't plan to go on the rescheduled 3 day cruise leaving on 9/12. Thinking of holding off cancelling until we see how bad things get over the weekend. If they wind up cancelling and offering refund rather than credit towards a future cruise, I'd prefer the refund. Anyone else of this mindset?
