Adult only areas

How late in August did you go? I'm looking at a 7-day August 26th of next year and wondering what the kid level will be. I know schools are well in session by then here but that may not be the case everywhere.

There were a decent amount, but they seemed very well behaved. Nothing like what I experienced on Vista during Spring Break. I think you're pretty safe at that time.

In April Carnival eliminated adult pools on several ships. They are now opened to families. With the casino you have a nice adult area. There are also adult cruises one could look into. Carnival won't bar or change hours on their lounges regarding kids.

Okay all' date=' before I get flamed I just want to give a little background.

My wife and I were recently on the Miracle and upon embarkation made our way to the Red Frog Pub where we enjoyed an adult beverage and played darts, foosball and shuffleboard. We decided that during the cruise we would try and spend more time there because we were having a great time.

Well....every time after that when we wanted to go in and play shuffleboard or darts the place was overrun by families and especially kids taking over and playing those games. We could never get on the,.

This is a pub after all, right?

My question to the amazing crew out here is......do you think that Carnival should make the pubs off limits to kids or at least limit the times when they can be in them?

We have children too but we spend good money to take some couple time away from our kids.

100% agree. There are plenty of places for kids to play onboard. Why do they have to be allowed to play the games in the adult type spaces too? There are plenty of activties outside the pubs for them to enjoy....mini golf, arcade, waterslide, as well as the pools and teen/kid camps.

Another instance where parenting is not always a verb. I would not allow any child that I was supervising to hog any type of game. But then again, I also wouldn't let them run wild all over the ship, jump in & out of hot tubs, etc. Unfortunately, many parents seem to take a break from parenting when they cruise. I absolutely adore kids, but they are just kids & need guidance & supervision.

But I do think the Red Frog Pub (not the bar or the Blue Iguana Bar), should be limited to adults only. Just like Alchemy. Those are two bars/pubs on the ship that seem like they should only allow adults to sit in.

I was a kid and teen cruiser. I'm not a parent cruiser. But to all those that are repeating the "go on another cruise line, or get over it because kids can go everywhere" stuff, be realistic here. You can get where he is coming from.

Alchemy doesn't really have a door or is not really closed off from the rest of the ship, but I think there should be an age limit to sit on those bar stools. When it comes to Red Frog Pub, I think there should be an age limit on who enters.

The kids wouldn't miss out. There are plenty of places for them to go and have fun. But if adults want to just chill at a bar with no kids around, there should be a place for that. Some mentioned the club. That's only open at night plus, a club is not everybody's cup of tea. Or if it is, that's not the atmosphere they might want to go in every night on board just to have cocktails and drinks.

Carnival is still and will always be very family friendly, even if they implemented something like this. No worries, your kids will always have bars to chill at or get pop at since that seems to be parent's number one concern.

I dont see the Pub as an adults only area at all. Drinks are served everywhere, the Pub is no more an adult area than any other restaurant or deck for that matter. If its an adult only area, it will be advertised as such, otherwise its open season for families/kids.

 

Also, it's listed "fun for all" on the Carnival website. Each ship will spell out which areas are adult or not.

What I mean about "curfew" is allowing kids in areas up until a certain time of day/night and then make it adult only.

Once on a Princess ship I accidentally straight to the upper deck not realizing that there was a nudist convention on board... that was a shock.... but I'm pretty sure that even that upper deck was not restricted for children. True story

Oh my God eliminated adult only pools that is terrible?!?

 

I will never step foot in the casino myself they are loud annoying and worst of all extremely smoky and smell like crap I wish they would remove them from the ships honestly or at least put them down deep in the bowels of the ship or nobody asked to see or smell them

Actually they didn't. Enough people complained to Carnival and they reversed that decision with the right to make them family friendly if needed. I consider that a win since I was very vocal in my displeasure when they announced they were making the Aft pools family friendly.

If it were adults playing the games (or even getting the opportunity) then I would expect them to act like adults and not hog things that EVERYONE can enjoy, and not just me.

Taking turns? Hmmmmm....now THAT'S A NOVEL IDEA and something that most adults would think of. Not all...but most.

As for saying that "Your cruise ship provides the Serenity Adult-only Retreat"? What does that have to do with wanting to have some fun, playing some games in an ADULT setting? A place where you can hang out with "like" individuals, have a few drinks, maybe let loose a little and enjoy the cruise that YOU PAID FOR.

As the original post said, I am simply wondering if they can designate the Red Frog Pub (after all....it is called a PUB) as either adult only or at least after a certain time, have it adult only.

It would not be "kicking out" families as they would know that they can bring their kids in before a certain time and then allow adults/ cruisers without kids to be able to have their fun too.

It would be like saying, "Families and people with children can only cruise aboard Disney Cruise Lines".

That would be a ridiculous statement but there should be some times when kids do not have to be everywhere that adults are. The Serenity area is simply a "relaxation" area. What about when people want to have a little more fun than that?

As I mentioned, we have cruised with our kids/teens and DID NOT allow them into the bars, nightclubs or pubs as we considered this out of bounds to them and gave adults "their" time.

It DOES NOT solve the problem as there are ALWAYS kids on board at every time of year as people take their kids out of school to vacation on down time.

The cruise in question was in February when the kids are all back in school, and the ship had lots of kids on board.

Maybe there are less kids, but still a lot of kids.

This is because many of us have made clear in this thread that parents are responsible for the behavior of their children and you relayed that the family was there together. You are therefore asking the cruise line to scold parents for not parenting their children the way you would want them to parent their children. I'm all for more adult-only areas but your complaint as you presented it is simply petty.

Actually, this poster may have hit on a good solution (though perhaps not the one they had in mind). If they were adults playing game after game, what would you do? My guess is you would ask them for the next game. Same thing here. Ask the kids (or their parents if they are around) for the next game. Might just work.

 

Personally, I have no problems with some areas being Adults Only after a certain time. Some other lines do this, even Disney, which is obviously family friendly. It allows families and kids to enjoy the space, but allows adults to have some "alone time" too. Win-win, and a good compromise.

 

One can say, "it won't happen," but that isn't very constructive. It might happen, and discussing it is the first step. Comment cards are the second step.

Well......I don't know about you, but a pub in my world (and anybody else I know) is a drinking establishment and a place where adults can go to unwind. Drinks, food and such.

Pubs in our area are open to families (on the restaurant side only) until 8 pm, then kids are not allowed.

Nor would I want my kids in there to see adults at their best...haha.
