Adult only areas

Okay all, before I get flamed I just want to give a little background.

My wife and I were recently on the Miracle and upon embarkation made our way to the Red Frog Pub where we enjoyed an adult beverage and played darts, foosball and shuffleboard. We decided that during the cruise we would try and spend more time there because we were having a great time.

Well....every time after that when we wanted to go in and play shuffleboard or darts the place was overrun by families and especially kids taking over and playing those games. We could never get on the,.

This is a pub after all, right?

My question to the amazing crew out here is......do you think that Carnival should make the pubs off limits to kids or at least limit the times when they can be in them?

We have children too but we spend good money to take some couple time away from our kids.

Thoughts?

Carnival has been reducing adult only areas. You do have the casino, spa, gym, nightclub, and serenity deck as well.

I understand that but a pub is SUPPOSED to be adult oriented, is it not?

I would actually have zero issue if they allowed kids until maybe 7 pm, after that, make it adult only. Allow the adults time to play.

Remember, the kids also have the pool decks, the arcade, all of the kids clubs, etc as well, so the argument goes both ways.

I dont see the Pub as an adults only area at all. Drinks are served everywhere, the Pub is no more an adult area than any other restaurant or deck for that matter. If its an adult only area, it will be advertised as such, otherwise its open season for families/kids.

Exactly. If one is bothered by kids I would suggest a cruise geared more for adults.

That's how I was raised but that doesn't seem to be the norm these days. "Back in my day" our parents rarely took us to a place that served alcohol. It just wasn't "appropriate" to take children to what was then referred to as a 'lounge' compared to a 'restaurant'. And on the rare occasion we were allowed inside such a place, we certainly weren't allowed to play the 'games'! If we were quiet and stayed out of the way we might be allowed to watch the adults play but it was "look but don't touch".

There is alcohol served literally everywhere on the ship. If children werent allowed to be where alcohol is served, they wouldnt be able to board the ship.

I also have to agree with the posters that the pub on Carnival is not designated adult only so it's allowed. And with Carnivals aim to target families, I don't see the change you want happening. I agree that you should consider other lines that are more directed at adults.

While I agree that there was a time when a lounge was dictated by society not a place for children, those related societal rules from dress to decorum are being thrown out the window.

Personally we prefer Princess because it has a more traditional platform of dress and decorum.

Pool deck and arcades are not age restricted, you can use them.

I understand your point about an adult pub, but bars and lounges on ships are designed for all ages. It's different than land based venues. I don't begrudge you your wish but on a line geared towards families and kids it is a big ask and a request that may be better filled w Princess or Celebrity. Just the reality of it

For sure. And as other folks have mentioned, CCL is really marketed towards families. There are other more adult friendly options out there if thats an issue.

What are the more adult friendly options out there?

Also, OP, my wife and I don't care much for kids on cruises, so we schedule them for when kids are in school. (Sept, Oct, Nov, Jan). We have found that the number of kids on cruises is drastically reduced. Perhaps you could try that?

Princess is great, HAL is also great for less kids. Of course if you go during school there will always be fewer kids, but if you cruise on a line less geared towards children there will be even fewer kiddos.

Same here. Add in Feb...late Feb is close to spring and not a lot of kids on board yet. I think that the bars with doors on them (Pub, Sports Bar, Night Club), should be adult only. But the best thing to do is to try to cruise when less kids are on board.

I'm glad the aft pools are adult only again except if needed during peak times on Conquest Class ships along with Victory and Splendor.

This was in the top 5 factors of cancelling one of my Victory cruises. And I did tell Carnival that. It wasn't

the main deciding point but pretty significant

There are many adult only resorts. We are going to Sandals in October, no children and no singles. We stayed at Couples in Negril as well.

I'm glad lots of people expressed their dissatisfaction and that Carnival listened. I was still skeptical that they were in fact changed back, but I verified it for myself on Conquest a couple weeks ago.

For the aft pools being adult only except for "peak times" what are these "peak times"? Is it described anywhere, or just at the discretion of Carnival?

What I am getting at is: How do we know when they're adult only, and when are they family friendly?

If I remember right, it's reserved for times with lots of children on board like maybe Spring Break or such. I don't know that they ever really specified, but the majority of the time they are still adult only. They may not even open it to everyone.

Booking cruises while schools are in session is one of the better ways to have a more adult experience. Also, keep in mind that that means avoiding June, July and August entirely, since some areas (like here in the South) have summer vacation in June and July, while other areas (like up in the Northeast) have summer vacation in July and August.

I will add that I cruised in August and the pool was adult only if that's any consolation.

How late in August did you go? I'm looking at a 7-day August 26th of next year and wondering what the kid level will be. I know schools are well in session by then here but that may not be the case everywhere.
