2017-Early 2018 Caribbean cruising - the probable future

Recommended Posts

Based on Maria at this point...tonight reaching the Virgin Islands...tomorrow Puerto Rico...

Nearly every East Caribbean port that Royal Caribbean uses as a destination will have been hit at least once (a couple of them by 2 hurricanes).

We feel horrible for the fine inhabitants of those terrific islands.

At this point, the Eastern Caribbean itineraries in 2018 are likely going to need numerous revisions.

Terrible!

At this point, it appears Martinique island escaped major damage. They did get some limited flooding, primarily near the lower port area, but overall...damage is mostly downed power lines and trees. Local reports are that the port should be restored to operational conditions within a matter of a week or less.

We had the good fortune to visit this wonderful island in April 2016, and actually had low expectations...only to find it both charming and full of friendly/welcoming residents.

It's fair to assume their cruise port traffic will increase in the near term as a replacement itinerary port.
