rgnok Posted December 6, 2005 #1 Share Posted December 6, 2005 Calling all experienced cruisers -- We're leaving on our first cruise ever on the Splendour next week and I'm debating a cabin upgrade. We are currently in a D1/Balcony near midship and the left (Port) side, but a Junior Suite is available for a VERY reasonable cost -- it would be right (starboard?) side, much farther back on the ship. I'd appreciate any thoughts anyone cares to share on the pros and cons of each. Thanks! Roger
Jimbo Posted December 6, 2005 #2 Share Posted December 6, 2005 The extra space will spoil you but I would do it, Js cabin is 40 square ft larger (236 compared to 193)then a D1 cabin and the balcony in JS wil be twice the size 75 sq.ft opposed to 38 sq.ft. in the D1. Looks like it's only going to cost you a $100 per person to switch so we would do it. Plus I believe the JS Purchase will give you 2 cruise credits instead of just 1 toward when you become Crown and Anchor Members. After you get 5 cruise credits when you book any Balcony Cabins on any cruises you will get Money off. The ship isn't really as long as some of the ships so the little extra walking back and forth to cabin really isn't a big deal. Take Cabin #8566 not one of the connecting Js Cabins since the connecting door in cabin might make the sofa smaller (Love Seat compared to a regualr size one). Enjoy your cruise and your new cabin. critterchick Posted December 6, 2005 #4 Share Posted December 6, 2005 Three votes for the JS! The extra space is totally worth $100pp, IMHO. And all of what Jimbo said, too.
Jimbo Posted December 6, 2005 #5 Share Posted December 6, 2005 If you are going to do it, you better hurry, looks to be only 2 left now. Jimbo:)
Northern Bear Posted December 6, 2005 #6 Share Posted December 6, 2005 Jimbo, How exactly do you see what cabins are left? Are you just using a booking engine and then cancelling at the end? NB.

Jimbo Posted December 6, 2005 #8 Share Posted December 6, 2005 Jimbo, How exactly do you see what cabins are left? Are you just using a booking engine and then cancelling at the end? NB. Just use any cruise agency online that you know shows aleast 7 cabins available in each Category that you are looking at.......Once you know the online agencies that show that, use that site to check on cabin availabilty......If you go that same site and check to see what is left and it is less then 7 you can be almost certain that is all the cabins that are available to be booked in that category. Only way there may be more is if Royal Caribbean is holding some back or if Cruise Agencies are holding cabins, if it's inside 70 days before the sailing the cruise agencies have to release them back to Royal Caribbean. Don't use the Royal Caribbean site itself to check on cabins either because most times they never show you that many(7) at once at any time.
