Day 2 of Cheers

As long as it isn't New York or Texas and you buy Cheers on day two, they will charge you for day one and refund the cost of the drinks you purchased via your SS card on day one. If it's NY or Texas Cheers doesn't start until day 2 so you just pay for drinks as normal on day one and switch to Cheers on day 2. Or at least that is what they did to us.

That is not correct. If you buy Cheers on day 2, you pay for any drinks you purchase on Day 1 (pre Cheers) and are charged for Cheers starting Day 2. I confirmed this again last month on Conquest as I believe I have had this discussion before and I wanted to verify our experience on Vista in March.

They probably did it that way on ours because it wasn't day 2 according to cheers when we purchased it. It was like 3 am in the morning of the actual second day and they told us they were going to charge us for 7 days and refund everything we bought before.

Now that very well could be since Cheers goes from 6AM to 6AM. Or they may have just been nice.

Here's the question you need to ask yourself ...

Will you really save much money by buying it on day 2 rather than pre-ordering it through the In Cabin Gifts section as part of your online check-in?

Pre-boarding the price of Cheers is $49.95+ 15% auto-gratuity, while the on board price is $55.95+ 15% auto-gratuity+ the price of beverages ordered on day 1. On the average week long cruise that means pre-ordered Cheers is $402.10/adult in the same cabin while waiting for day 2 brings the price down to $386.06/adult in the cabin. The $16.04 difference is easily made up by ordering 2 cocktails, or 3 bottles of beer or glasses of wine on embarkation day till 6am on day 2. Even if not planning to imbibe alcohol on embarkation day the difference can easily be covered with a few specialty coffees, non-alcoholic icy inventions & mocktails, shakes, energy drinks, bottled water including mineral water, soda, or juices, which is all unlimited.

If leaving from NYC or TX the savings is greater because the online shops automatically take into account the lost day due to local liquor laws and calculates the package at 1 less day to start with. Also remember local sales tax will be charged by any US port that has it until you legally leave their waters. So regardless of if you have the package or not tax could be assessed on bar purchases on embarkation day on a per drink basis.

No, you don't pay out of pocket for drinks on day one unless you're sailing out of Galveston or NY. If you board in Florida or NOLA, for example, you get your Cheers sticker as soon as you board and go to the atrium or casino bar, and are free to start using it. (Assuming you pre-purchased.) Trust me, as we are Cheers experts. Lol Now, if you opt not to purchase Cheers until day 2 (IE, you opted to purchase onboard rather than pre-pay), then yes, you would pay out of pocket on day 1.

If you purchase the Cheers package on day 2 of your cruise, do you have to pay for day 1 or does it start from day 2?

Yes, that's what I think all of us were saying per the OPs original question. They were asking about purchasing on Day 2.
